- Reviewed in the United States on March 11, 2015So glad Trip Lee took some time away from his pastoral duties to make this album.
Many of the songs aren't straight hip-hop songs. So, it took me a little while to get into the album. In fact, I listened to it on YouTube (the whole album was available) a couple times in a row as I deliberated. The next day, I found myself singing choruses and trying to remember the words to different songs. I immediately went to Amazon and bought the CD.
I could tell you my favorite songs, but it doesn't really matter to you. I suggest you take my approach: View the MP3 album and listen to the popular songs online (ReachRecords.com has previews of four of the songs). If you find yourself back on the site to listen to the songs, buy the album.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 4, 2014I have followed Trip Lee since he first appeared on the 116 cypha with Tedashi, Lecrae, and This'l. With that said, I have bought all of his albums. I have to say that 'Rise' brings a new flavor that is sure to appeal to all who like diversity and creativity. 'Sweet Victory' and 'Manolo' are a few showcasing his ability to catch your attention with hope filled lyrics and with guest label mate Lecrae on the latter song bringing the truth. A lot to choose from in the hip hop market but don't sleep on this project. This'l also appears on 'Lazarus' and it's definitely a head banger! The title song 'Rise' puts everything into perspective. Excellent project!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2015No album this year had as an emotional impact on me as this one. Many times as Trip Lee transparently displays his struggles and how the Gospel carries him through those trials, many times as he shares, I easily get tear jerked. This work is by far one of the best albums of the year, any genre. And still it is rich in theology. Leaning and trusting on the Lord despite difficulties. It's very inspirational without neglecting any of the craft that has made Trip Lee one of the most well established artists in the game. The production is solid and diverse with Trip Lee bringing fresh rhyme schemes and flow to each. This is Schweet. God Bless brother.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 24, 2016Tripp Lee's testimony speaks to my heart. I can't say enough about this album. His call to the church to rise and be a light in this dark world is timely and yet timeless. This album influenced me to examine my life and convicts me of my shiftlessness in the body of Christ but then inspires me to do more. I'm sure this is just the spark that many Christians need to reignite the ember in their soul. I pray his scripturally inspired words will touch the hearts of the saints and move us to action for such a time as this.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 28, 2015Fantastic album. I used to only know about Trip Lee by hearing him off of other artists tracks like Lecrae and Andy Mineo. I was interested so I heard some of the samples off this album, and was thinking - eh... I don't know if this will be worth the $11. I took the risk today and have been listening to this album all day! Let me say that Trip's raps that he does on other rappers tracks do not do him justice. His beats and his flow are so smooth, and his messages are crystal clear. I promise that you won't regret getting this album.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2015Although I have 3 of his albums, I don't consider myself to be a die hard Trip Lee fan. I didn't like this CD at first. In fact, I thought it was garbage. I figured that was because I'm over 40 and don't listen to today's secular rap. To me it seems like everyone is trying to sound like Lil Wayne, and I can't get with all of that. I am however, a youth minister and like to keep abreast of what's out there. That way, I can direct the youth who are into hip hop to good Christian rap so they can skip over the trash. I wasn't listening to this album for myself, but would play it in the car when we went on our little youth trips. Suddenly, after a while I found myself singing the hooks, and desiring to hear the songs even when the kiddies weren't in the car. I'm also a church musician, and the quality of the music in this particular album gave me the impression that it wasn't just one guy trying lay down tracks with a keyboard and a sequencer, but rather uses real singers and real musicians. So that made me appreciate it even more. I'm so glad he came out of retirement. He needs to hurry up and come to NY so I can take the kiddies to go see him.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 29, 2014I absolutely love this album already. Probably one of my favorites of his so far. He paints pictures with his lyrics and Trip just has something about him that makes you connect. He gets into details about his life, his struggles and victories and how we are blessed to the called and to be able to worship. I couldn't be more pleased with this album. He keeps the same tenacity he has always had for preaching and combines it with music and lyrics that everyone can learn something from. Buy this album...you wont regret waiting for it :)
- Reviewed in the United States on November 10, 2014If there's one thing that stands out about Trip Lee and all his album it is the fact that after listening to them you feel uplifted and empowered. He has a very unique and God given talent to be Christ centered in his music and his rhymes. I also love the fact that he always leaves you with a call to action.
Rise is no different. Dee lyrics over dope beats that empower listeners to Rise up in multiple facets.
I love the Album. It is Highly recommended.
