I didn't love this one, choppy writing, characters and story that lacked fleshing out, and characters that just didn't work together does not a good listen make. And don't even get me started on Chelsea's use of (non)profanities - "where in the corn muffins am I" and "cheese and crackers" just to name two in a long list that irritated the heck out of me.

And as for her being a US Marshall, yeah ... no, I so didn't buy that because it was dropped in there with nothing to show me she actually was one. If she's a US Marshall then I'm the Queen of England 🤦‍♀️🙄

Throw in the old and I was done. I've loved this author's earlier works, this one not so much.

When you are ready for the next level in romantic suspense, your first stop should be Cristin Harber. The Savior has it all - action, emotion, heat, humor, and heart. There are few authors that I don't even need a blurb or a cover - I click because I know that it's going to have great storytelling. Ms. Harber is one of the few. The Savior will make you cry and laugh and swoon. It will keep you on the edge and it will make you sigh at the end. Do you need a new book boyfriend? Liam is IT! What more could you ask?

I don't know exactly what it is that keeps me coming back to this story over and over again, but each time I finish I fall in love just a little bit harder and walk away with something new touching my heart, besides just soaking in the hard fought for happily ever after.

............
Omgoodness y'all. Be prepared. The Savior will capture your heart, wring it empty of every little drop of emotion, then fill it to overflowing with breath-stealing goodness!

Liam and Chelsea's story start out with their world being shattered and learning how to keep living through intense grief. Their intense pain and struggle with healing from that loss mixed with conflict from work related situations that have some scary real-life-threatening consequences just seem like it's too much to deal with, and you find yourself holding your breath waiting for the next shoe to drop.

Liam rocked my world with how much he felt, how deeply he loved, how intensely and deliberately he lived life. Chelsea won me over with her compassion, realness, devotion, and her spirit. Together they find healing, trust, and a crazy fun and treasured love.

Throw in some spec ops missions, shocking revelations, frustrating word games, and a quirky cute lesson in romance and you have a high-charged action adventure along with a captivating love story. Oh, and you can't forget the Titan-esque moments that make you secretly giddy.

Hidden within the pages of this story are several nuggets of truth and tough love and grace. They translate perfectly from the story into the reader's head, settling there and showing the beauty behind the life lessons, and hopefully sinking deep to acceptance.

I was shaken by how viscerally I reacted to this story, soaking up all the emotions and feeling like I was living their journey with them. Words have a power to them, and if allowed, can embed and overflow -- which The Savior did for me.

So, basically -- get this book, buckle in, remember to breathe, turn the page and hang on for an intense ride. You won't regret it.

Holy @*$&$#! I loved every minute of this book. I felt the heartache from the beginning all the way to the hope and joy at the end. This is a great start to the new series based in the Titan world. There was suspense throughout the book, and there was some mystery as to what would happen next. I loved the twists and turns, and I was in shock at a couple of factors that I should have seen coming. There were some things that I did see coming, but it was great to see how it played out. It's great story telling when you get as emotionally involved in such a story like I was, and when you love the characters and their quirks. And for those that love the sexy bits of a romance, those are in there too.

Sadly, I just didn't love this one. I couldn't buy into Liam and Chelsea together no matter how hard I tried. I think it's because I could really feel Liam's love for Julia in that first chapter, and he still didn't seem over her when he and Chelsea connected a year later. I also did not buy Chelsea as a US Marshall at all. I have liked many of this author's other works, so I will probably give book 2 a try.

Disappointed

I’m feeling pretty disappointed right now. I’m a big fan of Ms Harber’s but unfortunately did not enjoy this one. In fact I barely got through it. I found the writing to be very choppy and difficult to follow at times and I never felt the connection between Chelsea and Liam. This book felt to me like it wasn’t even Ms Harber’s writing. I don’t know what happened here but I’m willing to give her another try in the future.

Enjoyed it and I'll most likely read more in the series. I need to think on this one a bit more before I add more details to my review.

Cristin Harber’s larger-than-life military/terrorism conspiracy plots often skirt closer to the edge of the unbelievable than many of the books I’ve gone through but then again, that’s part of the basis of the romantic suspense genre: the homing in on particular individuals upon whom the fate of the country or the world hangs, no matter how ludicrous the situation might be (even when the connections are far from water-tight).

Yet ‘The Savior’ is an intriguing start to a new series that I’m curious enough to want to continue: the somewhat taboo attraction between a retired army captain and a federal agent, brought together ironically by the death of the death of his girlfriend (who also happened to be latter’s best friend).

Chelsea Kilpatrick and Liam Brosnan do make a good pairing somehow, especially so after Liam learns that the tragedy they’d both lived through was in fact, premeditated…and carefully planned over a few years.

Pile on the guilt, the hesitation, the electric sexual tension and a mite bit of push-pull. The icky dead-partner as the third party vibe isn't altogether absent, nonetheless. We’re not quite given much of their history together however, only that they knew each other marginally through Julia, yet Liam and Chelsea ‘adulted’ quite well and I liked their inadvertent (and fairly mature) way of dealing with their burgeoning attraction to each other.

What was strangely surprising was the lack of action that brought the steady pace to a sort of lull until the last quarter of the book as things pulled together. (I didn’t get the Vietnamese-sounding terrorist names, by the way.) Harber’s writing style did feel somewhat ‘off’ and uneven at times though: some collocations didn’t quite make sense logically if you actually think carefully about it, or the moments where more was needed but wasn’t given and vice versa. Some were even jarring enough to kick me out of the narrative; well, the whole point being, I did think a finer-toothed comb was necessary in weeding out these errors, developmental or otherwise.

Being cautiously optimistic about this new series is what I’m left with by the end, abrupt as it seemed.

The Savior is book #1 in the new ACES series. You don't have to read the Titan or Delta series first, but characters from previous books also appear in this book.

With the first book in a series I often feel like: "Come on, do something… Where's the Action? How long does it take for other characters to develop?" But not with this one: I read chapter one and BAM! ...I was totally hooked.

I don't want to write anything about Liam and Chelseas' story, because I think everything might be a spoiler. I just want to say that the Savior was such a beautiful story about a relationship with a difficult start. I was really torn either, but with a little bit of humor and a great mix of suspense and heat, Cristin Harber knows how to get her readers to love her heroes as much as she does.

If you haven't joined Cristin's Facebook-Group Team Titan, you totally should. It's great to read some of our banter, stories or thoughts shared in her books! It feels like some part of us is treasured in her books.

Ein toller Serienauftakt! Ich wünschte nur, es wären schon alle Bücher der Serie erschienen und ich könnte sie in den Ferien direkt alle auf einmal lesen ;)

Liam and Chelsea are tied together by a shared tragedy in their recent past, and share some of the same loved ones. They both have demanding and dangerous occupations. And any of those things could explain the new target on their backs and the fact that they could both be in danger. Now they will have to work together to keep each other and those they care about safe, while trying to figure out which of the many antagonists could be to blame. It is hard to know who is friend or foe and who to trust.

This is full of suspense and danger from various sources with an unexpected new passion and relationship that runs full throttle. They are both trying to survive while also dealing with the past and protecting the new bond in order to hope for the future. But they are at risk for loving and losing if they cannot stop it. There are some cameos from old Titan friends and potential for more stories from this new group.

What an incredible read! "Savior" reaffirms what a great storyteller Cristin Harber is. I was hooked from the beginning and loved the romance that grew between Liam and Chelsea in the shadow of a horrible tragedy. I don't think I've rooted for another fictional couple more. Tangled up with the romance are two storylines with bad guys and unexpected plot twists. I'm eagerly looking forward to the next book in the series. I received an ARC in exchange for providing an honest review.

Good book

Another great start to a new series. Going back in time to before Titan was awesome. This book had everything, drama, love and suspense. I won’t spoil the plot but it left me intrigued and captivated. Highly recommend this book

First book in a new series. It was good, but it felt OLD and at times was just drawn out. This works into the Titan world, but I'm not sure where cause it just mentions the Titan guys.

I struggled with the rating for this book. I didn't like the pairing of Liam and Chelsea, just couldn't embrace it. The major case Chelsea was working on was definitely anticlimactic. The issues with her partner were loose ends that were just dropped. I love the Titan world, but I just didn't connect with these characters. Hopefully, the next book in the series will be better

The Savior

OMG! Who knew! This book included both Westin (before Sugar) and Black - what a surprise! The beginning of this story was so terribly sad. Liam lost the love of his life and that is where his life takes a turn for the worse or better - depending on how you want to look at it. Chelsea mourned her best friend's death for over a year and then she started having feelings for her best friend's boyfriend - Liam. Once these two finally figure out their attraction, the sadist decided that Liam needs to continue suffering but Westin and Black have other plans. Once the sadist is captured, Liam and Chelsea finally tell each other of their love. Oh, Chelsea did have another shock when she found out the woman she was hunting was actually her sister. Now that was a shock! I am happy that these two found their happily ever after! FANTASTIC job Cristin! I would highly recommend this book.

The plot is two-fold, on one side is Liam’s and on the other is Chelsea’s. There connection is Julie, Chelsea’s friend and Liam’s girlfriend. Unexpected events mean the loss of Julie leaving them both struggling with grief along with family. Chelsea is actively investigating and ongoing case that Julie was helping with but things at work are not going to well. Liam has been at a loss just not understanding what happened.
To start off this story is sad and emotional, you can understand their pain and confusion the whole not moving on and not wanting to forget someone so important to them. Then the suspense starts building and gets intense along with changing feelings and sparks of attraction. As they both get pulled in on protection and worry, Chelsea has more problems. I was sucked into this from the first page, only put it down when I had to and was kept hooked throughout. It is well written and the emotions were completely understandable, the sense of loss and finding it hard to let go. As the plot unfolds and events start happening the suspense builds up keeping you on the edge of your seat, while I found one really jaw dropping the other I found slightly less climatic than I expected it to be. It was shorter and over in a blink almost, not sure quite what I thought would happen but I guess I did think it would be a bit more intense or drawn out to what it was. This in no way detracts from the story or spoils it and I loved the ending. Having a few old friends crop up was great and I enjoyed reuniting with them since its been a while since I read the last book out. I can imagine this book is the lead in to a new series and some things from this will carry through even if only by explanation. I also understand that as this was an early copy there may be some changes in the final draft so I shall be doing a re-read. I love having my own emotions tugged in whatever way the story takes them and this one certainly followed through with that, getting lost in my reading is why I read so much escaping into a fictional world and finding new friends with every book, as well as relaxing. This story did all of that.

There are books that grab you by the throat on the first page and do not let you breathe until you have read the last word of the last page and are hyperventilating and oxygen starved wanting more... This is one of those books.
A new set of characters with cameos from a couple of old favorites this book did not disapoint. I loved every word, every nuance of attitude, but most of all the feelings evoked with a new love that should feel wrong but shines through and brings life back into the light.
I say it is unputdownable. I can't wait to read whatever comes next in the Aces series.

Perfect!

What a sweet and heart wrenching story! Cristin Harber has a best seller for sure!! This incredible story takes your emotions on a roller coaster ride of deep sadness and heartwarming excitement.

There are an eye-opening cast of characters that keep the reader totally invested in this story to see just how crazy intense its going to be and how it’s going to play out. If you have read any of this author’s previous books, you will know what I mean.

After Liam’s gut-wrenching loss, I didn’t know how the author was going to pull of a decent relationship between Liam and Chelsea without it feeling like a second rate rebound. Not only did she pull it off, but it is presented with finesse and grace which is honest and exhilarating. I forgot to mention that it is incredibly HOT! Once they let themselves acknowledge it, this couple have an intense sexual attraction!

So many intricate twists and turns with exciting chemistry! A very well done introduction to a fabulous new series! I can’t wait for more!

I loved it!

Wow Cristin Harber never fails to deliver on her books. The Saviour is the first in a new series Aces Team and if the others to come are anywhere near as good as this one it will be a winner.
From the moment I started to read until I reached the last page. I was totally engrossed.
The story of Liam and Chelsea starts with the devastating loss of someone they love, Julia, the girl LIam was about to propose to and who was Chelsea's best friend.
Liam and Chelsea are drawn together to help solve the murder of Julia and others.
The love that they find together is so powerful it helps them to survive the dangers of the investigation.
I love the fact it also has ties with Team Titan. A day after reading this book l still feel emotionally involved with the characters. If the rest of the books in the series are anywhere near as good, they will be amazing.
Well done Cristin Harber this a winner.

This is my first ARC reading, I loved not having to wait for the release!
Th Savior is not out and I am looking forward to the next book in the series, Chance, I hope.
There is a great flow to the book that has no dull moments. The main characters find themselves attracted to each other and have to get past their feelings of loyalty and guilt to their dead best friend and girlfriend. I thought their hesitation and angst was well written.
I laughed at Chelsea's kindergarten teacher dialogue, cheese and crackers!!
Some of the military story was a bit farfetched, and I hope this is not the last we've heard of Chelsea's bad girl, Zee Zee.
It does still need to be edited for missing words and incorrect words, eg. Know where to be found...
I also would have preferred chapter 1 to be a prologue, got invested in Julia.

Well Cristin Harber does it again! The savior is the first book in the ACES series. And after reading it I can’t wait to dive into more books. Liam is a retired former Army recon captain currently freelance contacting. The night is plans to propose to his girlfriend is the night she is murdered on the metro. Chelsea is a US Marshall and was best friends and writing partners with Liam’s girlfriend. A year after her death a mysterious envelope arrives at Julia’s celebration of life party, unleashing a chain of events that only Cristin Harber can god it justice. So excited to continue reading about a new branch of Titan.

Liam and Chelsea have a rocky start to their relationship. He was the almost fiance of Chelsea's best friend who died in a bombing. But they have now been brought together on an investigation into that same bomber.

Chelsea and Liam are both enduring survivors guilt and the fledgling spark of attraction between them leaves them both feel guilty. All that sexual tension has to be alleviated somehow and when they finally get over their emotional obstacles, the touchpaper is lit on intense passion. The action/adventure isn't exactly lacking either!

Looking forward to our next ace-in-the-hole.

Heart breaking, intense, humorous. I just loved this book. I've read about every book Cristin has written, and I love the men and women in these stories. The Savior started by making me cry, but the further I got, the more I understood. Second chances was meant to be, but can be so awkward. Especially the first morning after. Does men even do the walk of shame?
Intense pain as you realise you're losing the memories of the woman you loved. But life goes on, doesn't it
This book is so full if surprises it will even surprise you. And end, so sweet. Thank you for a great read

I have been intrigued by this book the moment I read the first blurb and I happy to report that it has surpassed my expectations. Cristin Harber has done it once again with this introduction to her new Aces series. Heartbreaking, passionate, sexy and action packed, this book had it all and then some. It is hard not to fall in love with the main characters and it’s exciting to to see old favorites. I can’t wait to see what’s to come in the Aces adventures.

The Savior by Cristin Harber is a great book. It is a departure from all her other books I've read...and I mean that in a good way. The story is one of love lost and found with plenty of emotional angst on both sides. There are more plot twists than an out of control rollercoaster. There is plenty of intrigue. Betrayal also comes from the most unexpected places. Sorry, no spoilers. Believe me, you want to get this book. You won't be sorry

This is a new series by Cristin Harber. It’s a little different from her other books, but just as good.
The writing is masterful. Starting in the first chapter we are hit with danger and heartbreaking loss. It is a roller coaster of feelings I experienced while reading The Savior. The character development is wonderful. I really loved this book and look forward to the next book.

OMG. I loved Titan, then Delta, but Aces has me in love. Liam and Chelsea are my favorite now.

This book hooked me from the first page. I hated the first chapter, and was surprised Cristin Harber would do this in her book. But I had to continue reading. I am so glad I did.
I loved the Titan guys showing up in Liam's story.

Aces

This KU library selection is the beginning of a new series with ties to the Titan series. Liam is a former Army Captain who takes occasional contract work. As the story begins, he's on the Metro with his girlfriend, Julia, headed to dinner where he plans to propose. But two men raise his suspicions and during a skirmish, Julia is killed. A year later, his grief is still palpable as he attends a life celebration at Julia's parent's house. There he receives a mysterious manilla envelope with redacted documents and security footage photos related to the shooting, then he's pulled into a secretive meeting with a powerful Senator. He learns Julia was targeted and murdered, as other loved ones of former team members on a certain op have been. And her parents are in danger.
Chelsea, a U.S. Marshall, was Julia's best friend since childhood. The celebration has been hard on her, but she notices how hard it has been on Liam, and his odd behavior. After a man in a black SUV escorts Liam away, then he returns and shares contents of an envelope with her, she's all in.
The author has done a good job of developing the characters in this book and with their grief and confusion about emerging feelings for each other. The plot is improbable, yet engaging, with two separate villains to divide the focus. I'm looking forward to the next book.
