Take 6 continues to minister to me through song with their newest release: Believe. When they first appeared on the Gospel scene in 1990 with So Much 2 Say, some church folk thought them too secular in their delivery although they were and have primarily been an a Capella group. Since that time, they've taken their musical gifts and ministry into various arenas and often to people the Church may overlook.

Pure Gospel, Inspirational and Redeeming Value Love Songs of the somewhat secular. But all clean cut and much needed for our Heavenly and Earthly relationships. Something for everyone without being too preachy, yet convicting and heartfelt with the strong vocals of Take 6 that just don't seem to be weakening, after nearly 30 years since their first release. These brothers just keep innovating with every new release!

If I could give this 3 1/2 stars I would. I like this work and it's growing on me, but it has a couple of issues that keep me from fully embracing it.
First, let me say that I love Take 6 and am a huge fan of the group. I was raised and still am Adventist, and their music has been the soundtrack of my childhood, teens, and now my adulthood. My sister and I used to act out David and Goliath on Sabbath morning before church, and I later listened to Harmony over and over on my MP3 player on the bus to high school. I've seen them in concert two times in Gainesville, and will gladly see them again if they come back. I don't mind whether they are acapella or backed with instrumentals a la Brothers; I just like the fun and good music.

Now, back to the album. I love R&B, and I don't mind Christian artists putting out a clean love song now and again. However, I feel like this album is more watered-down in terms of the Gospel. I know they have gone secular before with The Standard, but I figured Believe was going to be more on the Gospel side of the tracks. The fact that it feels less spiritual is something that I can't really explain, but if you listen to the lyrics of Feels Good or even One next to this album, you can tell the difference. Some things I noticed was the subtle omission of the name of Jesus, no reference to any Biblical texts -- songs with a guise of spirituality without any real substance. The only comparable work I can think of in their discography is Beautiful World, which was mostly covers of old secular songs. However, I do love the fact that this album has more original songs, which was a long time coming.

I love Keep the Faith, You're All I Need, You Make Me Happy, On Your Side, Reset and Beautiful Day. The vocal arrangement of Reset is wonderful. It's classic Take 6 acapella with a more updated arrangement. You Make Me Happy also has a wonderful acapella arrangement. The best work with the instrumentals to me is on Keep the Faith.

I like Here in LA, but I haven't really concentrated on the lyrics yet to tell you my full opinion.

Walk Away has a good message for the youth, letting them know that they can put down lifestyles that aren't in their best interest. I appreciate the inclusion of a rapper to make things more contemporary (and it is not the first time they've worked with a rapper -- they did a song with Queen Latifah on Join the Band), but I think an artist with deeper lyrics or complex style a la Swoope, jgivens or Jackie Hill Perry would work a little bit better. Christon Gray, a rapper and singer, has an appreciation for jazz that I think would work surprisingly well with Take 6. The rap transition between this particular artist and Take 6 was a little jarring. The styles didn't mesh together that well to me, and I am a CHH fan.

Five minutes with God is okay. It's not my favorite, but I wouldn't skip past it. It's an interesting little thought, what you would say if you had a few minutes to talk face-to-face with God, but there's no clear answer or point to the question. No mention of the fact that we can have a "meeting," though it may not be face-to-face, with God every day through His word? No mention of seeing Him when we get to heaven? Okay. Maybe I missed this aspect of the song, I'll keep listening.

When Angels Cry is also okay to me. I like the acapella version SO much better than the one with the instrumentals. I'm not always a big fan of ballads, so my lack of enthusiasm for this track is personal and not on Take 6.

My least favorite song lyrically is "You Know You're In Love." Is that even a Biblical view of love? "All you want to do is hold her, you know you're in love." That's kinda true, but that's not how you know you're in love! To be honest, that's how you know you're in LUST. lol. Love from a Christian perspective is so much deeper than the physical. It is so much more than infatuation and butterflies in your stomach -- it's the "love texts" from 1 Corinthians 13 that Take 6 read themselves in their song "I L-O-V-E U." I think that if a Christian artist is going to delve into relationship-based lyrics, it should go beyond the surface feelings of infatuation and reflect the type of love that makes us different. It should be deeper than anything you hear on the radio these days and hit you right in the soul.

Statistic is another song that could be so much better if the writer went deeper. A message to fight for a marriage, lost in trite ordinary R&B lyrics rather than pointing to One that can hold a relationship together -- lost opportunity. Nice 90s R&B feel that I like.

I've always been a Take 6 fan so it was not an issue for me to buy this one without hearing it first. Love it!

I've been a fan of Take 6 since they debuted in the late 80s. I'm admittedly partial to their acapella work, as opposed to those with instruments. This album was frustrating to me because you can hear that the same skill and harmony from 'Take 6' and 'So Much 2 Say' is still present...yet they've seemly tried to "evolve" into something of an R&B type group. They are SO much better than that, and are still at their best when their voices are the feature. "U Make Me Happy", despite not being a Gospel song, and “Reset” is vintage Take 6 and is what I buy their music for. Wish there were more like it on the album. Not a bad album at all. Just not the Take 6 that I prefer.
