The Knockout Rule: A Hot Mistaken Identity Romance (Showmen) Kindle Edition
Siskind’s latest slow-burn romance is stay-up-all-night addictive and proves love hits when you least expect it…
Growing up with an adoring father for a boxing legend isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. It looks more like hospital visits, bloody noses, and cracked ribs.
Isla Slade now works as a physiotherapist, helping athletes heal their bodies. Except for boxers. She has no interest in reliving the stress of her teen years. Dating someone in the boxing world? She’d rather snort wasabi powder.
Until she meets Preston Church.
Preston manages heavyweight boxing darling Brick Kramarov. A brute who’s built tougher than his name, with a cocky attitude to boot. She wants nothing to do with either man, but her father begs her to help them prepare for a huge Vegas fight.
She doesn’t expect Preston to recite romantic poems and slowly break her resolve. His fascinating mind gets under her skin, even if his star athlete reminds her how much she hates boxing.
Too bad it’s Brick coaching Preston how to woo Isla, falling for her from the sidelines. Once she finds out, she’ll have to decide if she can risk loving another man who puts it all on the line for the knockout.

About the author

Kelly Siskind lives in the wilds of Western Canada. When she’s not out hiking or skiing, you can find her, notepad in hand, scribbling down one of the many plot bunnies bouncing around in her head. She loves singing while driving, looks awful in yellow, and is known for spilling wine at parties.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2021New Orleans Rush was my favorite of the Showmen series until The Knockout Rule knocked me off my feet! Oh how I loved this story! There isn't a single thing I'd change about Isla and Eric's book, it was sweet and swoony and heartfelt from start to finish.
I'm not sure how Ms. Siskind was able to make a 6'6" 249lb hunk of man a cinnamon roll, but she sure enough did. I adored Eric, so freaking much. He is everything you could ever want in a man and I'm so sad he's just a fictional character. His heart is bigger than his thighs, and Isla and his family are so lucky it's theirs. I'd love to get a hug from him right about now.
Isla is just as wonderful, with a great big heart of her own. She's so strong, and cares so much about the people she loves, I felt for her when she was hurting.
I really loved the two of them together. It wasn't an easy journey, but you could feel the love they shared and knew it would all be worth it in the end.
Just like the rest of the books in the Showmen series, there's so much more to this book than what's on the surface. I'm pretty sure I've said this in all my reviews for this series, but I love how Kelly balances the light-hearted fun and sweetness with some heavier topics in each book. Although the heaviness never overpowers each story, it always helps make for such well-rounded reads. I shed more tears than I expected while reading The Knockout Rule, the characters and their stories really tugged at all my heartstrings.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2021This sweet friends to lovers romance melted my heart. A boxer with a huge heart and his physiotherapist fall for each other. This book checked off so many tropes...a sports romance sprinkled with a bit of forbidden love and a cinnamon roll hero to boot.
Eric, sigh, if he exists in real life can someone find him for me? Although he had this rough and unintelligent image to uphold for his fans and career, on the inside he had a beautiful soul. He was so kind, selfless, and patient. The words he spoke to Isla had me in a puddle. I loved how he could be his true self around her.
Eric and Isla were just so perfect together. I could feel how much they understood and cared for each other. There were some scenes that were just so precious. A few parts I reread, especially with how gentle and romantic Eric was with Isla.
There were a few points in the book early on where I was a little bored. But the further into the book I got, the more I loved it. By the end, I was sad to say goodbye to this couple.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2021I love Kelly Siskind's voice in this series. It's not usual that I love every book in a series, but these characters have something unique that makes them different.
In this book we meet Isla, a physiotherapist specialised in helping athletes and daughter of one of the most successful boxers of the last years, which makes her abhor the idea of working with boxers.
But then her father asks her to help him prepare his pupil for his first big fight, and she can't say no to her father.
Add in Eric, a sweet family guy with a mean punch and a passion for poetry and linguistics, mix it with some crazy chemistry, a manager that needs some help wooing Isla, some health issues, a family in some financial difficulties and you get a great story packed with feels, great secondary characters that add a lot to the story, and a very believable conflict wrapped up in Kelly's beautiful writing.
She has become one of my few one click authors with this series, and it's getting better with every new book she publishes. Eric has become one of my top male characters on his own merit. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 1, 20213.5-3.75 stars. This was a pretty good book. The Knockout Rule is book four in the Showman series and can be read as a standalone. This is Isla and Eric's book. Isla is the daughter of a famous boxer who is now a famous boxing trainer. But she hates boxing because her father's fights and injuries caused her extreme anxiety throughout her life. Now Isla is a physiotherapist who heals athletes heal from injuries, although she refuses to work with boxers. When her father is diagnosed with Parkinson, he asks her to come on the road with him to Vegas and spend time with him, while doing therapy on the boxer he is training for a big fight there, "Brick" Eric Kramarov. Isla has reservations and much anxiety about it, but wants to support her father during his illness so she agrees. Eric is a boxer, but so much more. He studies liguistics and wants to go into that job field, but he comes from a poor family and must contine to box, as well, to support his single mother, sister and her kids. Isla and Eric feel a connection as they work together and get to know each other. But Isla hates boxing and can't imagine being in a relationship with a boxer, when it causes her so much anxiety. Eric is under so much pressure from his family and outside forces that he doesn't feel like he can quit the sport, even though he doesn't love it himself. The two have a lot to work through before they can eventually be together, but love wins the day in the end.
I liked this book, but I had a few issues with it. I really liked Eric and Isla. Eric was a strong, silent type and his boxing persona was to put on a dumb act. But Eric was actually a linguistic genious. He adored Isla so much and felt himself so lucky to have her attentions. Isla was drawn to Eric, as well, despite misjudging him when she first met him. Her anxiety made it hard for her to let herself be with him, but she was able to heal and focus on love. I think they were soulmates and were meant to be together. They had a great connection and chemistry. But there were a few too many outside things that took away from their romance focus. There was a lot of sadness and angst, from Graham's Parkinson's disease to Isla's anxiety issues and Eric's money problems. There were a lot of unhappy moments and not enough happy ones. Another thing that I did not love was the focus on a particular poet that Isla idolized. This poetry was just not my taste at all. To me it felt like something a teenage girl would write. There was so much of this poetry quoted and repeated all throughout the book. I would not have minded the poetry theme if it had been better poetry, but I did not enjoy this particular poetry. Also, I also really did not like the fact that Eric's manager, Preston, pursued Isla and she went on a few dates with him. She really liked Eric but was afraid to date a boxer and I hated this OM drama. There is a "Cyrano de Bergerac" side plot going on where Preston begs Eric's help in dating Isla and he even helps feed him lines through an earpiece. Everything with Preston took too much time to get through in the book and too much focus away from the actual couple. I also did not find the book wrapped up particularly satisfyingly. I felt the conflict wrapped up right at the end and I would have liked more detail about their futures together.
While I felt this book lacked some of the lightness and whimsy of the previous books in the series, I still did enjoy it. I really did love Eric and Isla and felt their strong connection. I was happy that they were able to overcome their issues, fall in love and get their HEA. The boxing theme was interesting, as well as the linguistic and poetry themes. I have really enjoyed this series and all of it's unique books. I look forward to more from Ms. Siskind in the future!
