- Reviewed in the United States on December 14, 2015Sometimes being immortal is not all it's cracked up to be. Jack Hammond, an immortal, finds this out when he has to endure decades alone after the loss of his soulmate. Suicide is not an option, nor can he end his existence via the gunshots of liquor store robbers. Finally life changes for the better when he escapes to Maine and bumps into the clone of his lost love in Leah Winters. He also meets an intriguing guy named Artagan—kind of a Jack Nicholson character, who seems to have all the answers, past and future.
In MY SOUL IMMORTAL, Author Jen Printy poses questions that have plagued humanity since the beginnings of time. How long does love last? It is truly eternal? What price will one pay for true love? And is it worth it? And most importantly, once you find true love in a single person, over the test of time, does it change or remain constant, and if you see it again in a different time or world, will you recognize it?
Brilliant character development and a plot with a different kind of twist make this a Paranormal Romance for the ages. The author has an unusual talent for drawing you in, setting you up, and then throwing you an unexpected curve ball that gets your turning pages faster. She ends it conveniently 'open-ended,' leaving you begging for more.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 26, 2014I loved the beginning of this story, it pulled me right in. But somewhere along the way I got frustrated with Jack's bemoaning his torturous immortal existence. The story is told through Jack's eyes, it is his voice that didn't resonate with me. I couldn't like him, he came across as weak and whiny, but full of bluster.
This is a tale of star-crossed lovers with a unique twist. Upon relocating to Portland, Maine, Jack meets Leah, who looks exactly like his lost love Lydia. I liked Leah, she was smart, innocent, and head-strong. Her brother, Grady, added dimension to both her character and to Jack's. I liked all the secondary characters, anything that took Jack out of his own thoughts was a plus for the story.
The author had a nice command with her descriptive prose, her writing placed you directly into the scenes. But then Jack would start in on his woe-is-me, my poor lonely heart, I don't deserve to be happy, I am such a pathetic loser... When Artagan, a relative of Death, finally shows up, he spoon feeds Jack some answers. At this point I threw my hands in the air. As you can tell, I was frustrated, which does mean I was involved in the story. I will say that if you can get through the first three quarters of this book without giving up, you will find things start falling into place. The twists that Ms. Printy exposes makes this a better story than just about the star-crossed lovers as it started out. Perhaps this is because the focus shifts and becomes much larger than Jack.
In the larger picture we start to see how the most powerful of the immortals use the weaker as pawns in their own power plays. Artagan is perhaps the most interesting character and it will be interesting to see where the story goes from here. I wouldn't really call the ending a cliffhanger but I will say the whole game is about to change.
Format/Typo Issues: My review is based on an ARC version.

Looking forward to more of this author's books.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 18, 2014The story had me hooked from the first chapter. I can't wait until the next book comes out to find out what happens next. The only contention I have is the author's falsely maligning the lobster ice cream. It is a quite delicious concoction of vanilla ice cream with swirls of chocolate cookie crumbs and bits of lobster red candies.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 11, 2014I fell in love with Jack and it 'unusual' plight. Then there is Artagan, the quintessential bad boy. The love story at the heart of this novel is timeless and the writer's style descriptive and captivating. I highly recommend this novel.
