Editorial Reviews

When Dirty was released in 1992, it was seen by many as the band's big move toward the grunge market. Heard today, Dirty doesn't sound like a masterpiece (like Daydream Nation) or a gesture toward the mainstream audience (like Goo) -- it just sounds like a damn good rock album, and on those terms it ranks with Sonic Youth's best work.Hometown: NYC

This is a 2 disc reissue of Sonic Youth's 1992 masterpiece "Dirty". It has been remastered from the original analog masters and includes an extra track "Stalker". The sound is amazing: warm, crisp, and clear. The textures on the distortion and fuzz effects are beautiful. The drums kick and pop nicely. This was the album that made me a SY fan for life, forgetting about all those other "Grunge" bands. I bought it on cassette when it first came out. It wrecked the speakers on my cheap portable stereo and continued to play it till the tape wore out. It's nice to see Dirty restored in it's original analog glory. Any SY fan will want this reissue.

IMHO, you probably shouldn't make this your first Sonic Youth album. It might sound like incoherent noise without a little introduction to what SY was 'about'. But, this IS an awesome album.

Maybe you could listen to Goo or Daydream Nation first. You should certainly watch the "Sugar Kane" and "100%" videos on YouTube. If they don't 'rock your world' then this may not be for you.

I will say again though, just for the record (pun intended), I really like this awesome album.

Sonic Youth in their prime! A must have album for 90's alternative/noise/punk scene. Butch Big produces one of the most beautifully choatic albums of 1994. I love the production on this album. It's a cross between that sparkley "Nevermind" production, and that really heavy, yet warm, Sonic Youth growl that came in previous records such as "Daydream Nation" and "Evol", but with hi-fi production. Hands down one of my favorite records of all time. It change my life as a teenager. You will not be disappointed by this record. BUY IT.

This album will continue to grow on you, The more you listen to it, the more things that you may have not noticed will jump out at you, especially with the guitar riffs on this record it is just an awesome piece of sonic youth. Within their discography "Dirty" should never get overlooked, however it isn't their magnum opus album but non the less it will kick-ass continually and be a great example of why sonic youth is just an amazing band. Noise rock, alternative rock, whatever people call them, they are just simply "sonic youth", an amazing rock band from New York.

This album was an amazing listen. every song was full of energy. this album redeemed sonic youth for me after buying "a thousand leaves" which had a lot of slower instrumental type of stuff. This album however had nothing but upbeat listenable material. they did a great cover of "nic fit" by the untouchables who are one of the least known dischord records bands of the early years. In my opinion it's even better than "daydream nation" which most people say is the best. This is a perfect album for someone wanting to check out sonic youth.

Fast shipping, and came protected with cardboard which was really nice. Really happy with the CD, looks great!

Sonic Youth was popular coming out of Seattle prior to the Grunge movement. Really they could probably be credited with getting record labels to hang around the Northwest looking for bands in the first place. The punk sound they brought would make most listeners believe they were from NY or at least New England. Always great writing and blending of sound, intoxicating lyricism and teeth gritting orchestration, a good buy for any punk lover.

I bought the CD for the first time after getting used to liking their other CD "Experimental Jet Set, Trash, And No Star" and I was in for a huge surprise. The songs were easier to listen to and I enjoyed their hard thrash alternative and their signature screeching guiters. The best songs to listen to are "Wish Fulfillment", "Sugar Kane", and "In The Strip". Definitely worth a listen to.

Ottima performance dei Sonic Youth, da avere assolutamente nulla propria collezione, insieme a Goo e Daydream Nation. Il vinile è ben inciso e la confezione curata. Consigliato.
