Editorial Reviews

Three CD collection. Saved By The Bell - The Collected Works of Robin Gibb: 1969-70 captures the entire musical output of Robin Gibb at 19 years old, over a 12 month period from 1969 and 1970. The extensive set features the critically acclaimed hit solo album Robin's Reign, rebooted to include nine alternate takes and full-length versions, as well as the previously unreleased, and much sought-after Sing Slowly Sisters album, which comes exactly 45 years after it was recorded.

I brought perhaps 3 different bootlegs of these recordings and couldn't be more happy now to have a version with the quality and breath of this release. I pre ordered this and received it the day of its release. Just getting around to a review. This is such a great collection of songs from Robin it is hard to imagine a guy that young the maturity and talent to pull off such a fine set of songs. Of the unreleased recordings "All's Well", "The Flag I Flew" from Sing Slowly Sister are long time favorites, and a cleaned up "Janice" from the outtakes shines in its sweet melodic melody ~ Something Robin shined in. I still have the original Robin's Reign LP I bought at the time and a mono version I found somewhere later. I still play and enjoy regularly "August October", "Weekend", and in particular "Most of My Life". Not surprisingly, Odessa is my favorite Bee Gees album of the 60's.

I'm still working my way through this compilation, but what I've heard so far, just on the first disc, more than justifies the effort that went into this set and the purchase price. To be perfectly honest, I never cared much for this album when I heard it back when, or in subsequent instances, but now I realize that I wasn't hearing the material under optimum conditions -- there were always condition or pressing issues with the copies of the original Robin's Reign that I attempted to partake of, and none of those problems are part of this release. I can hardly wait to get to the later material as I'm listening, and the only question I would ask is if we will see an upgraded release of the two-man Bee Gees CUCUMBER CASTLE album and any related sessions.

A fascinating look into the creative processes of a young Robin Gibb. It must have taken great courage to break away from his brothers and set off on his own career. I love all of Robin’s early work in this compilation and his voice was so unique and moving. We lost an amazing talent when we lost Robin.

I just received this today - I do have one minor quibble with how long it took to arrive from the seller, Marvello, but I already feel transported to 1969 when I first heard Robin's Reign. The haunting melodies, the weirdness of the lyrics, which seem to make the listener part of some kind of fantasy, are so affecting that I can't describe it adequately. And I have just listened to the first disc! thanks to all of those who put this together after 45 years. Robin and I were born one week apart - my twin brother and I were born one week after Maurice and Robin, and we have always felt a kinship with both twins. This is an invaluable piece of work.

    muy bueno

About twenty years ago at a thrift shop I purchased a mint copy of "Robin's Reign" on LP for about $5.00 and fell in love with the music on this album. The "Sing Slowly Sisters" sessions were just something that I had read about but never thought would see the light of day. I still can't believe that we have them in a very attractive box set from Rhino! If you are reading this there is not much I can say that other people have not said better than I could and have much more inside information. I'm taking this collection very slow and listening to each disc many times over and reading the liner notes. Any fan of Robin or The Bee Gees must have this collection!

There is so much to this, I'll wonder if I'll ever get to it all. However, I heard and read enough so far to say this was worth every penny and more. It's just so awesome to reach back into history and find this living treasure. Amazing music by a talented and sensitive, world-wide legend. It's as if he knew he didn't have to release all of these in his life-time. It's as if he knew these songs would somehow be fetched, produced, brought to market to, on their own, live on an on. and on. (Don't be surprised if a few tears and a few smiles appear while listening.) Yeah, priceless.

This is a must have it you followed Robins solo career. First off you can't get a good recording of Robin's Reign, unless you have a original copy which I'm sure is worn out by now. Also on the unreleased album Swing low Sisters the title track lyrics were revamped with son and a music changed, to a more updated sound to create the song "Wherever you go" on his final album, 50 St. Catherine's Drive.. A must have for both.

I always loved the Bee Gees. The album 'Robin's Reign' is great. His other non published material is not up to par with
his best works; but I still enjoy listening!

Ce coffret de 3 CD, très bien présenté, propose de nombreux inédits de ce frère Gibb. Belles chansons, pour la plupart, et excellente interprétation.
Pour les nostalgiques des sixties. Beau travail.
