A Trip Across Latin America is a portrait of a band still at the very top of their game.

I only recently purchased after reading the reviews on Amazon.

I’ve never followed the Rolling Stones but the concerts in South America and documentary were amazing. The first performance of “Out of Control” in Argentina was unbelievable, and you clearly see the audience involved; it moves a person to see the interaction, as the people clearly loved them, and you could see the energy.

The documentary and filming is far superior to Martin Scorsese’s documentary, and shows the audience participation, which was missing from “Shine a Light”.

Drummer Charlie Watts is more of a private person; he didn’t say much at all, but at the end they allowed him the last few words.

When I watched “Olé Olé Olé! A Trip Across Latin America” on the telly last winter, I knew that once it was released on DVD that I would get it and watch it again (and again and…). I now realise that even without the documentary main feature, that it would have been worth buying just for the seven full-length songs that are given from various venues on the Latin American Tour – which were not shown on the telly documentary. At least worth it for me as a Stones fan, but I would also think that anyone, even with only a passing interest in the Stones, would likely be thoroughly entertained by the documentary and with this DVD package as a whole.

If you’ve already seen the “Olé Olé Olé!” documentary and are wondering about the extra content that you get with the DVD, the full-length songs are:

“Out of Control” (Buenos Aires, Argentina) (7 minutes)
“Paint it Black” (Buenos Aires, Argentina) (6 minutes)
“Honky Tonk Women” (São Paulo, Brazil) (4 minutes)
“Sympathy for the Devil” (São Paulo, Brazil) (8 minutes)
“You Got the Silver” (Lima, Peru) (4 minutes)
“Midnight Rambler” (Lima, Peru) (15 minutes)
“Miss You”, (Lima, Peru) (8 minutes)

(Song times are approximate) So nearly an hour of concert excerpts.

The documentary, shows aspects of the concerts that were given in Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Mexico and Cuba as well as input from fans in each country and from the Stones themselves. “Olé Olé Olé!” also gives a little bit of an insight as to how big an industry a Stones tour is – and it is very industrious from everyone involved.

The Latin American fans are incredible and in many cases have a different appreciation of the band, and it is in a way that would not happen in countries like the UK or in Europe, North America, Australasia or in most countries with a history of relatively free thinking democracies: “Olé Olé Olé” is more than entertaining – it is educational as well.

But entertaining it certainly is, the cinematography is absolutely stunning, and there are many great moments on the DVD, there are excerpts from some of the concerts and superb shots of the cities and their people where the concerts took place, as well as entertaining and informative “behind-the-scenes” information and snippets of historical information (like Charlie’s banjo for example), and all of it interspersed with snippets of Rolling Stones album tracks, and everything sounds superb.

The DVD comes with a sixteen-page booklet that shows some great artwork for each of the countries of the tour, as well as a page of “Credits” and a page of “Thank you”

    On the DVD you get:

“Olé Olé Olé” (1 hours 40 minutes)

    Scene Selection

“Live” – the seven complete songs:
    “Out of Control”
    “Paint it Black”
    “Honky Tonk Women”
    “Sympathy for the Devil”
    “You Got the Silver”
    “Midnight Rambler”
    Miss You”

I came to the Stones quite late and am mainly familiar with their later dvds. I've seen clips of older concerts on documentaries but never the full thing before. This is a treat with two concerts from 72 and 78 plus the Exile documentary. Real slice of history in all cases. Both the concerts are great in their own way. Ladies and Gentleman brilliant and band probably at their best, though the Some Girls concert has it's charm also, set in the punk era the band seem determined not to be outpunked by the new boys.

For the price, this really is a gem of a deal.

A thoroughly entertaining documentary which covers the Rolling Stones South American tour of Spring 2016 and the various countries that they visited. I would have liked to have seen more music and excerpts from the live performances but I guess that is catered for via the contemporary DVD Havana Moon. So if you are happy to watch a DVD which focuses more on the travelling and generally life on the road experience rather than the actual live performances I think you will enjoy this. Great just to see them still out there at their ages of course!

I have been a Stones fan since 1963 and cannot believe they still are THE GREATEST ROCK AND ROLL BAND IN THE WORLD. This DVD just shows how great they still are. In a way it is truly sad that no English band has come along to supercede them, but no one has ever come close, not even Led Zeppelin my second favourite band.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spaccati di storia del rock
Reviewed in Italy on 10 December 2015

5.0 out of 5 stars Na Endlich ...
Reviewed in Germany on 4 April 2009
