- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 November 2013Having just watched this concert for the first time, I feel it is a very worthy addition to the huge amount of material available on the Rolling Stones. Yes, we have heard and seen many of the tracks before but you do get a really good feeling watching this Hyde Park event. I particularly liked the introduction, the frequent long views and close-up shots of the crowd. The camera work is very good. Also, occasional footage from the 1969 concert is inserted at various points. It is very obvious how the crowd still interact with the group and the transfer of energy is very apparent. The close-ups of fans on Ruby Tuesday give a clear indication of how this band's appeal crosses over so many generations.
The complaint regarding the Blu-ray showing bars or interference above and below the main picture are unjustified from my viewing. I am not sure what screen it was being viewed on by the reviewer but there was nothing at all visible to me. I watched it on a 47 inch Panasonic full HD TV. The picture was very sharp both from a distance and up close. The sound was especially impressive with the separation excellent. This is a true Blu-ray release. It is just possible that there may be some faulty copies out there, I am not sure. Eagle Vision definitely had a major problem with the audio on some, but not all, of the Blu-ray copies of Paul McCartney and Wings Rockshow. Only recently was I confident enough to purchase this and even then only from Amazon themselves - where fresh examples are being constantly supplied.
I have only watched the Rolling Stones live once - in Santaigo, Spain - in the Summer of 1999. I had cycled the Pilgrim's Route from the French Pyrenees to Galicia and the journey, which normally takes 2 weeks, took me three, on account of having met a Spanish woman along the way. Proof enough, if it were needed, that this special mission need not be just a religious experience! I can well see why Galicia is Mick's favourite province in Spain. Thankfully, the extra time taken meant I arrived a couple of days before the concert which I was unaware was taking place. I delayed the onward journey to Finisterre and stayed in Santiago a little longer. I remember a full-on 2 hour concert full of energy and highlighting the Bridges to Babylon album. This latest offering seems to suggest the group have not lost anything in performance.
Any negatives? Yes. Why is it that we continually see releases with bonus tracks? The 3 tracks included here were all part of the concert and could surely have been included in the order they were performed. Simple you would think but this is a very common trend with concert dvds. In addition, there are several different formats and combinations available. I don't know how the standard dvd compares but I intend to find out as it comes with the 2 cds. If you want the cds plus the Blu-ray you will end up with a spare dvd! The same thing occurred with the last Def Leppard release - Viva! Hysteria. Finally, the cds contain 2 extra tracks not included on the dvd or Blu-ray. These should have featured in order on both. Frustratingly, it appears that different versions have surfaced in other countries and some have seen fit to include these tracks. Why couldn't they do this in the UK?
However tempting it is to knock a star off for the above, I won't. I thoroughly enjoyed this film and the addition of a slimline case inside a nice card slipcase together with the 16-page colour booklet make it an attractive purchase.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 November 2013I have been looking forward to this one and it arrived bright and early and was straight on to the Blu Ray player! What I found was a superb record of what looks like an amazing night in London. A full review as follows:
The Blu Ray contains most of the Hyde Park show from back in the Summer along with some nicely done band introductions to the `4 acts' as they are presented. Glastonbury features at the start with some comets from each of the band as commentary along with various shots of the site and back stage (no on stage views). This cuts to some gorgeous shots of London in the Summer before we head off to Hyde Park (occasional cuts back to the 69 show with comments from each of the band) and Start Me Up minus the few notes missed by Keith on both nights (thankfully!). What follows are the key hits from The Stones that need no introduction. My only gripe with the disc is over the use of `Bonus Tracks' where you have 3 tracks that are not part of the show meaning you have to go to the menu to access them. What is the point of this - two of these are favourites of mine (Emotional Rescue and Paint It Black) so why not just leave them in the main show? Who is the bonus for - we have already purchased it so want to see them where they occurred during the show. Oh well, on the plus side the tracks are all in the exact same quality as the main feature which is great news.
As for the show itself it looks superbly staged. Love the way the video wall literally encompasses the entire backdrop of the stage (good for those there at the back!) and nice touches like the building style fronts to some of the concession stands around Hyde Park - makes it all look very nice!
Picture quality is absolutely fantastic and stated that it is presented in 1.78:1 but others have reported the ratio is wider than this which will mean black bars top and bottom of the screen if you are viewing on a widescreen display. All adds to the cinematic feel for me though and I love the widescreen feel looking superb throughout of demonstration quality. One fault with this is that they seem to have used a standard definition camera for some of the high shots of the crowd from the back and the sharpness of the main feature means this stands out like a sore thumb. How weird that a HD cam was not used for these shots. Hyde Park 69 shots are generally OK but showing their age as you would expect. Sound is as good as the picture with a 5.1 lossless DTS-HD master track and it is fantastic. I noticed some very good separation of the bands instruments with guitar being very well placed with front right/left speakers etc., Some good use of surrounds throughout.
There are options via the pop-up menu to select the song tracks which are presented by 'Act' meaning you have some scrolling to get to the later ones. Same for the 'Bonus Tracks' which are easily found.
The Blu Ray comes in a slipcase and uses the nice thin plastic case which is fine by me (takes up less shelf-space). Some nice touches inside too with the case cover having a reverse shot of the crowd plus you will find a small booklet with photos and text covering the event. Overall a nicely put together package.
Highly recommended Blu Ray which offers a superb record of The Stones Live in 2013. In my opinion this is a superb record of The Stones live in 2013 - fantastic stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars T'ain ça décoiffe !
hasard celui ci, P.....(.....)* quelle baffe .....
Don' t forget to be HAPPY....................

5.0 out of 5 stars Glimmer Twins egos
Since the Stones didn't tour on their 50th aniv., except for a few shows, they released this. I had to have it because the "glimmer twins" seemed to forget who made them rich, the fans. It was forty something years to the day that they gave a "free" concert on behalf of Brian Jones who formed the Stones.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magistral edición de coleccionista

5.0 out of 5 stars Gute Erinnerung und sehr gutes Konzert
It's only Rock n Roll....
