Paragon (Fractured Era Legacy Book 3) Kindle Edition
Tadeo Raines knows what they say about him. It’s all lies. But lies are better than the truth. He broke the rules once and swore he’d never do it again. Now traitors plot against the fleet, and he's tasked with hunting them down and stopping them. Permanently.
Brutal conspiracies and devastating betrayals threaten to fracture the fleet. And the colonists have forgotten the most important lesson their ancestors swore to remember: It only took one wrong choice to destroy life on Earth.
Will the descendants make the same mistake?
Legacy Code is a suspenseful and dark genetic engineering science fiction series that has earned five star reviews from fans of some of the best sci-fi and fantasy books like Hunger Games, Divergent, and Red Rising, and has been compared favorably to Wool, 1984, and the new Battlestar Galactica.
What readers are saying:
"This is a very good story that has your heart pounding as you turn the pages. Intrigue, nefarious plots, twists and turns around every corner - great series, even if you're not a fan of science fiction."
"From the moment I read the first paragraph of Paragon, up until the last sentence, I was enthralled. Non-stop, on edge, exciting action. I honestly couldn't put a fault on this one, I loved all of it, including the song! The Fractured Era series is still up there amongst my favourite novels of the year."
"I love all of this author's books. I have read many post-apocalyptic and dystopian tales and this is different from all the rest. She always keeps me guessing. My only complaint is she doesn’t write them fast enough!! I believe this is the first 5 star rating I've ever given."

- Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2015This is the second book (Legacy Code is the first) of a continuing series, simply a solidly good piece of science fiction, well plotted, tautly written, fast paced, and with characters you care about. It is set in some distant future on an aging and deteriorating fleet of ships carrying all that remains of humanity as they seek a "New Earth." It is impossible to tell how long they have been out there, but it's been too long, and it appears that generations have lived and reproduced and died on the ships. Currently they orbit a fiercely inhospitable planet that they are trying to mine for the resources they must have to continue on their way, but there seem to be opposing forces at work, a possibly despotic government, an incipient revolution, and ordinary citizens caught in the crossfire. There are no aliens, no great set-piece space battles, just humans struggling desperately to survive in the hostility of airless space. If they can't find a hospitable planet...
This book continues breathlessly right where the previous book---Legacy Code---left off. A young guardsman, tragically involved in the devastating action of the last chapter, must now somehow move forward with his life as he begins to question his own motives and loyalties. Some of the plot begins to remind me, just a little, of a great classic of the genre, Logan's Run.
Most impressive is the authenticity of the characters and dialogue; Autumn Kalquist has done a great job of holding my interest. The characters are well fleshed out. There are very few background characters, and even they cause a picture to form. The pace is fast, the dialogue believable. Over time I have read a lot of frankly "hokey" science fiction; this is not that! I almost literally could not put my Kindle down! I now look forward eagerly for the next installment.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 7, 2015This is a continuation of Legacy Code and is just as well written. Era is dead. But her partner is not. And Tadeo, who had followed orders to kill her, could not keep her out of his thoughts.
Can her partner stay alive long enough to be found on the planet? Is Tadeo's mother a traitor? What did Era hide and where is it? Are the traitors trying to destroy the ship?
This book is the continuation of the story about genetically modified humans searching for a better world so that the human race can survive. However, they seem to want to destroy each other.
This is a YA, dystopian style book that is a quick and easy read. It flows well and keeps you guessing about what will happen next. A fresh storyline and entertaining.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 22, 2015I just finished the book and I was blown away. I read all the stories/novels in this series and enjoyed them all but this was the best. I recommend reading them in order but the core story is with Legacy Code and then Paragon (the full-length novels). The other stories are prequels.

This book is written in third-person limited and switches among 3 characters: Tadeo, Zephyr, and Dritan. The things I love most about the books is you experience what the characters are feeling and thinking: love, pain, desperation, fear. The story is very suspenseful, making you want to stay up and read into the night. I also found Tadeo's deductive reasoning interesting (because you unravel the mystery along with him) while he was investigating the actions of the 3 terrorists.
There is some mention of sex in Tadeo's reminiscing but there are no sex scenes. It may be appropriate for teen readers although I would consider it a book written for adults. There is rare use of explicit language but the author uses "kak" for "s***" more often than the traditional explicit words we are familiar with.
Although it was a science fiction novel somewhat like a Star Trek world, it's a book anyone can enjoy that loves a good, well-written story with strong, admiral characters facing difficult decisions. It is a dark story that will make you feel emotional at times. I highly recommend this book!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 9, 2015I enjoyed The first book for its intrigue and interesting society, but Paragon continued the story well. it was interesting to see another character's perspective and follow along as the plot thickened.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 5, 2015If I could give 1/2 stars for a rating, I would have gone with 3.5 on this review. Since that isn't an option, I went with 4 because I liked this series enough to read both of the books out so far. I have to say this book was more enjoyable than the first in the series. It felt like the characters were better developed. You get a better sense for their motivation. My biggest complaint is that these are certainly not stand-alone books. This is one of those situations where what should have been one long book was broken down into three books (or more?). I do not enjoy massive cliff-hangers at the end of a book. Yes, there can be some items not neatly wrapped up for further exploration in the next book, but feeling like the story was cut short is not for me. At least the ending of book 2 was a bit more hopeful than the ending of book 1. If you're looking for the next great sci-fi series, this isn't it, but the pace is fairly steady and it's a quick read. All in all, it's not a bad way to waste a few hours on a lazy afternoon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent series
Read Legacy code first as I had it free from Amazon via Bookbub, enjoyed it and then purchased Paragon and Better World.
Read Paragon next hoping somehow Era has survived?, Paragon leads on with Tadeo as the main character, not sure if he is going to be the nice or nasty guy, lots of subplots to come hopefully in the next book,,i,e confrontation of Dritan and Tadeo. What is Tadeo's mother have to do with any outcome.
Both books are very desciptive and well written, will be reading better World next, Even though I have read them out of sequence I stiil enjoyed them and look forward to the next instalment.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Better World Awaits ........... If they don't all blow themselves up first!
A truly gripping sequel to Legacy Code and the prequels. Legacy Code did have one or two lighter moments which softened the otherwise dire predicament of these lost-in-space colonists in their aged and rickity space ships. In Paragon however the surviving main characters and the supporting cast of thousands reveal how little they have learned from history and how little, perhaps, they really deserve to actually find a 'New Earth. Their political intrigues go from bad to worse and the fate of all goodies seems to be that of sacrificial pawns in the power struggles of the ruling elite.
If there is one clear take home message from this saga so far it is to avoid traveling in spaceships with airlocks that somebody else can open to the vacuum while you are inside!
