On His Six: A Former Military Protector Romance Standalone (Away From Keyboard Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 1,342 ratings

Ryker McCabe

Give me a room full of armed hostiles and I know exactly what to do. But a head full of memories? There's no evasion plan for those. Sit rep: I let my team down and nearly got us all killed.

I’m no coward. But I’m going dark. Back to Boston to exorcise a demon. Instead, I run into a woman being chased by her own. A jade-eyed redhead as soft and tiny as I am hard and rough. With a mouth made for sass, the heart of a fighter—and a potentially deadly problem.

Wren Kane

Ryker’s huge. Inked, scarred, and, at first glance, scary as all get out. Until I notice his mesmerizing, multi-colored eyes. He’s my last hope to prove my brother didn’t die of an overdose. My hacking skills only go so far, and good fudging luck finding anyone else insane enough to take on the Russian mob.

Danger throws gas on the sparks between us. But Russian drug lords don’t take betrayal lightly. And to bring down this monster, Ry will have to unleash his own.

Note: On His Six is book 3 in the bestselling Away From Keyboard series. It can be read as a standalone.

On His Six, the third book in the Away From the Keyboard series is Intense, emotional, and Thrilling. We follow Ryker the leader of Hidden Agenda and survivor of being captive in war. He has to make amends with a fellow captive and in doing so meets Wren. Wren is a crackerjack programmer and hacker. She is looking for her brother’s k!ller and Ryker is willing to help. The suspenseful and emotional ride they share as they look for and work to destr*y the worst of the worst kept me on the edge of my seat and holding my breath. I know I let out several gasps and I was reading and few “Oh NO's”. My heart went out to Ryker and all he lived through, but I knew Wren would sooth his soul. The pace is fast and the action electrifying as is Ryker and Wren’s connection. The heat they generate was enough to melt my kindle. I’ve enjoyed this series and Ms Eddy’s style of action and suspense. I’m looking forward to the next book.

I love the mix of character building and action in this series. Ms. Eddy has a beautiful way of writing "broken" characters and making them feel real and relatable. I may not suffer the same way exactly, but I’m able to feel their fears and pains through her words.
In On His Six we learn about 15 months in ‘Hell’ from Ryker's point of view and how Wren helped him finally heal with her own traumas. As odd as it may seem, I’m really looking forward to seeing it from Dax's pov. Although you can read these as standalone stories, I HIGHLY recommend reading them in-order to get the full story and experience. Even though each story, so far, is focused on one couple…I love that we are still learning about previous characters and their lives.

Following trauma that would destroy anyone, Ryker carries intense guilt and pain everyday, leading toward complete self-destruction. Wren is relatively naive but she wants justice. There is deep emotional scarring in this book but also a measure of healing and acceptance. Beautifully written and beautiful story.

As a fan of Eddy and this particular series I have been not so patiently waiting for this book. But, oh my, wait the wait worth it. This book met and shattered every single expectation I had and more. Ryker is so tortured and broken, in every sense of the those words, physically, mentally, and soul deep. Wren is delightfully quirky and much stronger than she knows. Her struggle through anxiety and haunts from the past have molded her into what I can only describe as fragile on the outside but strong as steel on the inside. Together they fill in the gaps, holes, and previously impenetrable spaces in the other and finally finding the safe space where they can finally show who they are. Yes, broken is beautiful because we all are in some ways even if less extreme than our beloved family in this series. The rebuilding and recognizing of self which allows for the acceptance of the other is perfect. I love how Eddy creates characters that do not depend on the other to fix them but to allow the love and strength the other gives as a catapult to delve into the often painful struggle of facing ones own demons. These two have plenty of demons, apart and together, but together they show the strength that they can overcome. Eddy’s writing and stories show the best of the human spirit to love and overcome even during the hardest and grittiest of life’s experiences and that is real but yet poetically beautiful at once. I cannot recommend this book and all of Eddy’s books enough. Her writing is clean and concise and storytelling such that you lose yourself into worlds of pain, redemption, and love.

This was a marvellous story. The action, twists and turns, and suspense never stopped! There were times when I was reading this book that it was "too real" for me and I had to remind myself it was just a story! That is when you know you are reading the work of an author who is excellent storyteller.... When it becomes so real that it shakes you to the core, which at times this book did to me, you know you are reading a very special story! The love story between Ry and Wren was so beautifully done. It was sexy and swoon worthy and oh so sweet! Ry was so emotionally wounded and closed up but he was so gentle and kind to Wren you couldn't help falling for him. The loyalty and friendship between all of the characters was heartwarming and added a really nice dimension to the story. I like how the people from the other books were weaved into this story also it was a nice treat to read about them all again. I highly recommend this book... The story goes in-depth on some hard subjects and is a real eye opener on subjects that I had never contemplated before but I would give it 10 stars if I could. It was a very enjoyable and riveting read.

I like how Ry is not as perfect as other main characters and how Wren can see him even through his “flaws”. I love the connection. Everything. Great Book.

This is the third book in the Away from the Keyboard series, but you can read it as a standalone. I haven't read the other books but was able to follow the story. There was a lot of information and characters to process at first.

I really enjoyed the story. Once I started reading i couldn't put the book down. The characters are wonderful. Layered and complex. They have a lot of things happen to them in the past which influences them every day. They don't give up, but keep going. seeing Wren and Ryder connect and help each other heal was wonderful to see.

It is a well written, action packed, but also very emotional and sexy read.

I loved this line” No, I feel so broken, But maybe we’re all broken. Maybe I didn’t understand until now how beautiful broken can be”.

I loved these characters, the tension and pace of the story, and the real thoughts that went through the characters’ heads when everything went wrong.

Check trigger warnings. This won’t be for everyone, but for those who can read this kind of dark romance, it’s worth the ride!

I went through all the feels! Read it. It’s fantastic!I’ll be checking out other stories by Deddy for sure.

What a great read! This is my first time reading this author, and I was pleasantly surprised. I was hooked from the first chapter.

Ryker's earlier life was heartbreaking, he has been through so much and has come through the other side. He has a lot going on in his life, after being tortured for 18 months in a jail when he and his men were captured (in the military). The scenes of torture are hard to read at times. Ryker and Dax are the only survivors of their time in captivity and Ryker feels responsible for everything that happened.

When Wren comes into his life, the sun seems to shine and he learns to cope with his nightmares. They work very well together and she seems to soothe his battered soul.

Characters from previous books appear in this book, but it is a standalone and you do not need to have read the previous books to enjoy this one. Although, I am now going to be buying the previous books. I am looking forward to Dax's story.

I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
