About the author

Amazon #1 Bestselling Author and a Readers' Favorite Gold Medal winner.
A veteran of the corporate rat-race, John W. Mefford never realized he was mentally documenting every experience of his professional journey—not until he started his first novel during a so-called "corporate timeout."
A voracious reader of mystery-thrillers since before he could shave, John enjoys weaving a twisty tale that keeps readers riveted until the last page. He's also learned he's pretty good at embellishing. Just don't tell his fourth-grade teacher.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2018This series is unbelievable. Once you begin page 1 of the book, you cannot put it down until the end...but it’s not the end. There is another story waiting for you. Ozzie is once again involved in incredible murder situation, but this time he is drawn in by his skill as an attorney which actually hampers his efforts to solve the murder, save people’s lives, and get the bad guy arrested, all due to attorney-client privilege. Our favorite characters again play a major role, including Brook, Nicole, and Mackenzie. If you are a fan of the other Redemption series, we get to enjoy the appearance of Alex Trout and her FBI team who work with Ozzie to finally resolve the huge major crime which you need to discover for yourself. It turns out that maybe the murder was just a by-product of more horrendous crimes being committed. Highly recommend this book and the entire series by this very talented author.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 4, 2020Ozzie took on a doozy of a case in this book. It is the epitome of intrigue and multi national espionage. Part of the book was predictable in that someone s behavior was not consistent with their reputation, but the rest of the book was full of tense moments, multiple angle cues, egrets, bombs, murder, and of course a dash of romance as Ozzie gets his life back on track.
Par for the course Ozzie is injured and this time Tito asks why does this always happen which got a chuckle out of me. Nicole has grown on me and I really liked her character and role in this story. This story should be read in order because the dynamics at play between characters is important to how each scene plaster out and who Ozzie went to when he needed help.
The more I read of this big three part series the more I enjoy all of the characters and stories. I don’t have a favorite character or book but I know when I finish one book I immediately want more!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2025This book will hit you fast and hard. No punches pulled and no quarter given. Ozzie has a way of ending up in the most bizarre circumstances and finds a way through. Sometimes a little worse for the wear, but never beaten. Read this and try to find a way to not be kidnapped into the crazy world of Ozzie Novak.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 9, 2018I liked the novel. Good characters. Interesting plot. My main complaint is that there was no resolution of the evil group responsible for the mayhem that was the storyline. Maybe that will be addressed in a subsequent novel. Would have given 4 stars for a conclusive ending.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 3, 2018Lawyer turn PI retained to save a lobbyist from being charged with murder one, gets to investigate more than the murder is his paramour. The plot is strong, characters realistic and writing and editing are of high standard. Good book.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 23, 2018I don’t know how John Mefford does it! Each book in this entire series just get better and better the more you read. The Ozzie Novak Series is no exception. The “On Fire” Book has more twists and turns and because you cannot figure out what is going to happen next you won’t be able to put it down. I read this book in one setting and am on fire waiting for the next one. It has been thrilling to say the least to watch John Mefford grow as a thriller author with each book. I dare say he is one of the best out there and will continue to be for a long time. Don’t miss this great thriller series. Start it today. You won’t be sorry.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 5, 2018This 5th Ozzie Novak book is the bast yet! Ozzie is an attorney turned Private Detective who is sometimes to willing to help a friend and this time didn't look at the fine print.
He gets pulled into a murder investigation that immediately leads to him getting followed, shot at, threatened by his client and the client's very powerful attorney.
We even get to see FBI Agent Alex Trout - the main character from the first books of the Redemption series - when Ozzie turns to her for help in getting all the bad guys brought to justice and at the same time, keep his family safe.
John Mefford is a genius at weaving a story and keeping you guessing until the very end. All the books in the Redemption Series are stand-alone novels, but reading them from the beginning, to me, is the way to go. The three main characters pop up in each other's stories and you will be hook from the first Alex Trout, then Ivy Nash and finally on to Ozzie Novak. You won't be disappointed!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2018This storyline was very well developed with surprises, many twists & turns and great characters. It is one of a series starring the lead character, Ozzie Novak. I'm glad this is so because I look forward to accompanying Ozzie on his next adventure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great story
You can’t go wrong with Mefford. He’s such a solid good writer. This story layers in with his other books.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Change, or you will die."
A woman is murdered. A suspect arrested. The security cameras in the corridor outside her hotel room show Franklin T.Marshall was there just before the time of her death. It all seems cut and dried.
Except his soon to be divorced wife of 21 years said that Franklin had been with her then.
Ozzie is asked by his friend, Brook, a detective with the Austen police force, to look into it for her: she was dating the suspect's brother, Noah. And as he investigates, Oz finds some strange discrepancies ...
With his usual panache and excellent visual writing skills, author John Mefford delivers another involving story in the life of the unfortunate but very likable lawyer-turned-private-eye Ozzie Novak. Completely stand alone, as are all of the stories, it is additionally enhanced by reading them in order and is also part (number 17) of the larger Redemption series, all of which are recommended.

A thoroughly exciting and spell binding book. I thouroughly enjoyed the intriguing storyline and the characterisation was perfect. A story of lost loved reunited. Evil lover thwarted and villains caught and jailed. A great read for any suspense reader.
