About the author

Amazon #1 Bestselling Author and a Readers' Favorite Gold Medal winner.
A veteran of the corporate rat-race, John W. Mefford never realized he was mentally documenting every experience of his professional journey—not until he started his first novel during a so-called "corporate timeout."
A voracious reader of mystery-thrillers since before he could shave, John enjoys weaving a twisty tale that keeps readers riveted until the last page. He's also learned he's pretty good at embellishing. Just don't tell his fourth-grade teacher.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2017This is the first of the Ozzie Novak books sub-series of the 'Redemption' series (if that makes sense!). Anyway it is a brilliant book, the plot really keeps you guessing where it is going next, and you're never quite sure why other characters are doing what they're doing, are they helping Ozzie or not?
Ozzie himself is a great character, totally believable, a tough and resourceful guy, but beset by all too human weaknesses and failings. He doesn't give up and makes this great story into a brilliant one.
There are the Mefford trademark action sequences which really get the blood pumping to spice up the book as well.
I really can't wait to see what happens in the next book.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2020I loved the story line. Then characters were well done also.
The story started off gangbusters, I thought this was going to be a great read, but somewhere about 50%, it lost its way. Not totally, but some things just didn't add up any more. You start thinking, "What are the odds?"
His ex-cop P.I. friend is packing up and leaving town to get away from the bad guys, but our lawyer friend jumps right in? And then the wife? I mean??
Still a good read, 4 stars
- Reviewed in the United States on March 13, 2020As the first book in the Ozzie Novak series, we sure got a good look at his emotions. I, for one, felt such empathy for ALL of his circumstances. But we also got a look at his quirky sense of humor (or maybe it was that of author, John Mefford ...The "in the blink of an eye reference", among others. Meanwhile, the crime part of this story was unexpected ... several times over. I loved the twists. This was a great book to start the series. I can't wait to read the next book!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2020Ozzie was first introduced in an Ivy story, but now the focus is on him and his family. He has truly the worst day possible at the beginning of the story and the rest of the story is trying to find answers for how and what occurred.
During the answers we have intrigue, violence, new friendships, a career change and questions given and some answers found. The ending is quite a cliffhanger and the connecting of characters and questions was entertaining. Ozzie was screwed over by his father, but the rationale at the end was somewhat sweet? I liked having Brook come over from Ivys stories and found the condition to the bombing and the other town a great transition.
I don’t like Ozzies wife(soon to be ex?), but I did find her role in everything a unique twist. The cliffhanger was not expected but did answer a question since I have read some Alex stories that occur later in the series. Can’t wait to read what happens cut in Ozzies new job as a P.I. and finding his daughter!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 15, 2020It goy my attention and I expected that I would continually be drawn into it. However, somewhere down the line I began to lose interest and at one point was hoping it would end! All in all I simply rounded off what I thought was a three and a half rating.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 10, 2020Love this author, loved this book and loved the fact that it kept me thinking and thinking and thinking and never being able to figure things out. I love surprises and got my fill here. This is a definite must read. Actually, anything written by this author is a definite must read.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 13, 2020Well written and started really well but suddenly turned in a very predictable story. It is likely the author had to rush it to finish before some deadline:) I would give it 3 1/2.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2017Ozzie made a very brief appearance in the last Ivy Nash book. Now, as the reader really meets him, he is living through what has to be the worst series of events of his life - his wife has left him, his law firm is raided by feds, his father has a heart attack, and things get worse from there. Several seemingly unrelated situations become intricately interwoven as the story progresses. The final outcome is not likely to be what you think, in more than one respect. Since this is the first book in this part of the series, it's not as critical that one has read the previous stories. If you do start with this one, however, I hope you go back and read the earlier works. You'll be glad you did. This is an outstanding read, while also being part of a dynamite series. Mr. Mefford has definitely become one of my favorite authors

5.0 out of 5 stars Good solid story and character while being full of twists and turns.
I got this book after reading the first couple of pages, there was something original in the way the author wrote. The main character is real in his responses to the things he experiences while having skills to get him out of situations, however, it doesn't come across as unbelievable. The story itself is also well woven and as the many threads come together you can look back over it and see how it could actually happen. If you are not looking for real don't be put off there is plenty of action, twists and turns, and at the very end, there is a decided curveball. Really enjoyed this and I will look out for more from this author. I have just checked and there is plenty of other books by him I can enjoy reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars A new lead character has entered the Redemption series: ...
A new lead character has entered the Redemption series: meet Ozzie Novak, a very personable young man of twenty eight, whose pleasant life is about to fall apart. The soulmate he married is not the person he thought she was, and has turned him out of his home and cancelled the plastic, his father becomes a person of interest to the police, which, in turn, puts his half share in the Novak and Novak law firm in jeopardy and, lacking funds he doesn't even have anywhere to stay. And then, it seems, someone is out to kill him.
Another exciting , well written read and intriguing start to a new six book series by author, John Mefford. Definitely one not to be missed.
