Milk Kindle Edition

3.9 3.9 out of 5 stars 9 ratings

In a post-apocalyptic world, Lou, a goods trader (batteries, cloth, books, pornographic devices) stumbles upon a new business opportunity when he miraculously begins to lactate. Milk is a rare commodity in a world gone to hell, and so before long everyone in town wants a piece of the action, but there's something not quite right about the milk - other than the fact it came from a fifty year-old man. The milk is bad, turning everyone that consumes it into radioactive mutants with a penchant for human flesh. Now it's up to Lou to put things right, before everyone he knows becomes a milk-guzzling cannibal.

Whatever you do, don't drink Lou's Milk…

Editorial Reviews

Review

If I'm honest, I can't sing the novel's praises enough. This is pure undiluted entertainment from start to finish. Sometimes you start a novel grinning like a Cheshire cat at the author's witty manner, but after a short while the comedy gradually becomes stale. Not so here. Millard keeps the jokes fresh and colourful all the way through the tale. The pacing is absolutely spot on. The handful of threads to the story converge perfectly. And not once does any part of the tale begin to feel like it's getting tired. It's quite simply a masterclass in manically witty and outrageously original storytelling. This really is one of the most entertaining novels I've read. From the moment you pick it up you'll become utterly addicted. I literally can't remember the last time I grinned so much reading a book. Pure mind-bogglingly imaginative genius!!! - DLS Reviews

Adam Millard has created a hot, dusty, desert of a post apocalyptic world. He introduces us to the haveners, the residents of Oilhaven. The author introduces his characters brilliantly, dare I compare with Good Omens by Gaiman and Pratchett. Yes I do!!! We meet a corrupt governor and his henchmen, a group of dastardly bandits. The only children conceived in the blazing heat and their parents. And of course Lou and his potent milk. This is a great read, the author keeps you turning pages, using satire and adventure. I see a good future for this and look forward to reading much more in the future.

I had no idea what I was getting into when I downloaded this. But I was not the least bit disappointed. If you got a love for mutants then you my friend will enjoy.

Lou Decker was a enterprising man, he could always get his hands on anything. As the only shop in town, you could say he was in demand. However, when he started lactating milk, whilst he did not know why, he knew he had hit the big time and trade would be better than it ever was. But when the milk guzzelers turned in to mutants, the business crashed before it started.
Set in a post apocalyptic Oilhaven the town definitely has its characters .Whether it was Kellerman the corrupt Mayor of the town, Mick the naked homeless man , or Abigail, the only prostitute in town, every character had their quirkiness. Some of my favourite characters were the bandits, a mismatch of try-hard wannabes.
As like the other books I have read by this author, I had an enjoyable read. There was not a page that had the one liner that did not have me laughing out loud. There was horror and action throughout building up to a great ending. It took me longer to read as I kept reading out scenes to my daughter as she kept wandering what I was reading.
If you have never read any of this author’s books then what are you waiting for. A horror read with a laugh a minute.
