Louder than Love is an excellent record showcasing the raw energy and relentless agression the young Seattle band possessed that took them to the top of the world in a few short years after it's release. Its cheeky jabs at hair metal cliches are delightful along with the powerful messages of saving mother earth and being under the control of politicians and corporations. Cornell presents his genius by writing music and lyrics to the records most memorable tracks along with his once in a lifetime voice which only gets better as the years went on, a classic and a favorite.

Yet another perfect album, IMO. Anyone who's worked with any of these band members over the years are fortunate, and I am relieved & "blessed", lol, to find a timeless voice & variety of rock styles for my mind/body through Soundgarden's music. Oh Chris...

This is Soundgarden's major label debut. While the songwriting isn't as mature or distilled as it is on later releases, this is the disc that showcased the performance that Soundgarden would later realize. From the opening drums of Ugly Truth, that demonstrate the unique time tripping quality of Matt Cameron, to the wailing vocals that Chris Cornell offers over the course of the entire album, Louder Than Love is among the 10 best grunge albums ever. The aggressive riffing of Big Dumb Sex, Louder than Love and Hands All Over, show a band that has its Black Sabbath influence but are taking it a step forward. Gun hints at the punk rock that would show up later in Ty Cobb or Kickstand.

The only part that make me sad is that nowadays, a band doesn't get to fire this type of warning short for their debut but have to deliver the goods that show up on follow ups like Badmotorfinger or Superunknown to be viable.

The production is a bit raw and noise in spots but it fits the vibe of the songs. Terry Date keeps all the instruments in place sonically.

Overall, this is an album that belongs in every grunge fan's collection.

This was Soundgarden right before they hit the big time. Kinda raw-sounding and heavy. Chris Cornell's voice reminds me of a wild horse that just runs where it wants to- he must have had a vocal coach or something in between this album and Badmotorfinger, because he sounds a good bit different on those two albums.

Soundgarden is and was influential in the making of 90's rock. Chris Cornell' voice was something rock, in many ways, hadn't had until they came along. Couple his voice with an amazing guitarist, bassist and those catchy drum beats, and you have a band that created the Seattle sound, "grunge." I highly recommend this album and all of their albums.

Finding myself extremely frustrated with the US pressing of this reissue I decided to take a chance and order the EU version. Without question what I should have done in the first place. Cleanly pressed and housed in a poly-lined scratch free inner sleeve and flat to boot. Audio quality is superb with clean highs and a reasonable low end. No one is ever going to give this recording any audiophile awards but it's nice to get a little more depth in the vocals/air in the cymbals over the CD and it's all around far better than the original LP. It appears to be an Optimal pressing and I am really thankful for that because in my experience they actually care how their stuff sounds going out the door rather than simply "passing the savings on to you" with a sub-par product. They get it right far more often than other plants. If you even just like this record you will find this version far better than whichever incarnation you have in your shelf/hard drive.
