Dubbed "one of the most musically sophisticated of the current generation of dance music producers" by The New York Times, ZHU has performed at various U.S. music festivals including Coachella plus sets at Lollapalooza, Bumbershoot, and Life Is Beautiful. ZHU recently wrapped up his 'Neon City' debut headlining tour where he performed 18 shows in major markets across the U.S., including 2 sold-out shows at NYC's Terminal 5.

    All I can say is WOW! This is everything that is right with electronic music. It has this understated quality that actually delivers. Even the song with Skrillex is subtle and nuanced (surprise). All the vocals are enticing and compliment each song well without becoming the focus of the song. In the end it's the instrumentals that take the stage. This album displays a wide range of styles that meld together very naturally. There's a real theme that flows through the whole record that is rare for these types of albums. This is definitely my favorite album right now.

    The vinyl itself is clean, it's pressed very well and it's blue, so that's fun.

    I'm usually not into electronic music, but for some reason this album is really appealing to me. All the songs are great, but would like to point out "In the Morning", "Palm of My Hand" and "Good Life". This album is amazing, and you need to hear it.

    Lange hat sich ZHU Zeit für sein erstes Album gelassen, nachdem er 2014 die Dancefloors mit “Faded“ eroberte. Auf seinem erstem Longplayer ist sein Sound nun deutlich ausgereifter, es ist sehr detailreich und melodiös produziert. Es nicht mehr nur reine Partymusik, eher fürs intensivere Genießen mit Kopfhörer. Einige echte Instrumente wie Saxofon und E-Gitarre veredeln die sehr unterschiedlichen Songs, die aber alle eine melancholische und emotionale Stimmung vereint. Das Markenzeichen, sein Falsettgesang, machen die Lieder unverkennbar, die zwischen Dance, Synthpop und Deep House und wandeln.

    Meine Anspieltipps:
    3. “In The Morning“: ruhiger Einstieg mit Klavier, der plötzlich einsteigende Beat erinnert leicht an Faded, atmosphärischer Clubsound mit mysteriösem dazugehörigem Musikvideo. Auch der Kaskade-Remix ist sehr zu empfehlen
    4. “Secret Weapon“: packt die Discokugel aus, das Gitarrenspiel könnte von Nile Rodgers sein, macht einfach Spaß bis zum bombastischen Finale
    7. “Palm of my Hand“ ist der musikalische Höhepunkt des Albums, höchst emotional mit packender E-Gitarre, sehr schöner Clip im Noir Stil. D merkt man, was für ein gutes musikalisches Gefühl Zhu hat. Leitet sehr schön auf das nächste Highlight weiter
    8. “Money“ hört sich an wie ein Sade Song aus ihren Glanzzeiten, sehr sanft mit einprägsamen Refrain und wunderschönem Saxofon
    11: “Hometown Girl“: sehr zeitgemäß, chillig und charttauglich, cooler Schluss, einer meiner Sommerhits 2016
    12: “Good Life“ hebt die Spannung und das Tempo wieder an, hat mich von Anfang an gefesselt, hat Tiefgang und zählt zu den besten Werken Zhu's
    13: “Generationwhy“ eines der besten Lieder noch zum Schuss! Der Titeltrack des Albums ist auch neueste Single, übrigens mit richtig guten Remixen und sehr über 10 minütigem Kurzfilm, der sehr fesselnd und ambitioniert ist

    Fazit: ein unterschätzter Künster mit einem der besten Debütalben des Jahres. Toller Albumaufbau, ausgeklügelter Sound, mit jedem Hören entdeckt man mehr Details. Schade, das er noch so unbekannt ist, er hätte definitiv mehr Beachtung verdient. Meine Entdeckung des Jahres!
