    Keeping it real, that seems to be what Fantasia is all about. This CD has R&B, Dance, Pop, Ballads - all with a Fantasia touch. Her unique styling abitity is all part of the charm. Fantasia shows versatility and soul on this CD. She puts herself - heart and sole into her music, and you can hear it. She has the type of talent that will keep her around a long time. All the songs are great vocally. All with the expection of 1 was great lyrically:

    I am sure you guessed it, the ever controversial "Baby Mama" I accept her explanation of the song, and I know it has been an encouragement for those who find themeselves in that role - however, I am not about to tell my daughter that "It's like a badge of honor". What I did do was explain to my daughter (age 10 - and my son age 6) What the song was about, and what I did not like about it, and why she will never be allowed to perform that song along with several others that cause hardly any uproar like "Loose my Breath" or "Milk Shake".

    Anyway, other than that diversion, this album is well worth purchasing.

    There is a difference between a studio voice and a singing voice (Fantasia Barrino). This girl has what is almost completely absent in music today: a real-life SINGING voice. *gasp!*

    I absolutely LOVE her voice... Stephanie Mills meets Billie Holiday... and she hit some Karen Clark-Sheard in "Got Me Waiting". Her riffs and ad-libs come from her heart... you can FEEL it... she's not just doing bad imitations of R&B like most of these "singers" these days *coughBritney&Christinacough*. My favorites songs on the album are: "Truth Is", "Ain't Gon' Beg You", "You Were Always On My Mind" (makes me think of Willie Nelson lol), "Summertime", "This Is Me", and "I Believe". Like one reviewer said though, "Got Me Waiting" is just "You Got It Bad" & "Let It Burn" with different words. I hope the producer didn't get paid full price for that one. Fantasia made the song hers though, the same way "I Believe" is hers lol.

    To the dishonest people who are jealous because that girl who shouldn't have even been anywhere near the AI finalist list didn't win over Fantasia: "Free Yourself" and your behinds will follow lol.

    I like MOST of this album but, I love Fanny! There a quite a few songs that I skip "Selfish", "Baby Mama", "It's All Good", and "I Believe". This being her debut album, it had some hits and misses because she was figuring out her sound imo. Decent album.

    1. Ain't gon' beg you 4/5
    Die sechste und letzte Single aus dem Album ist der Album-Opener und geht in eine lässige R'n'B-Richtung. Stellenweise kommt Fantasias gute Stimme zur Geltung, allerdings hätte man da auch noch mehr machen können!

    2. Free yourself 4/5
    Der Titeltrack des Albums war die vierte Single daraus. Er ist ebenfalls ein R'n'B-Song mit leichten Soul-Einflüssen. Gerade gegen Ende zeigt sie stimmlich noch etwas mehr.

    3. Truth is 4,5/5
    Die zweite Single aus dem Album ist ein wenig ruhiger und sanfter, wodurch auch Fantasias Stimme sehr schön klingt. Stimmlich ist das zwar nicht das, was sie eigentlich bieten kann, aber trotzdem handelt es sich bei "Truth is" um einen tollen Song!

    4. Selfish (I want u 2 myself) (featuring Missy Elliott) 4,5/5
    Dieser Song hat gleich von Anfang einen guten, leicht orientalischen Beat, der ins Ohr und in die Beine geht. Missy Elliott, die einige Tracks auf dem Album mitgeschrieben hat, hat hier auch einen Rap-Part. Ein toller Song!

    5. Summertime 5/5
    Auch auf diesem Album darf ein Cover des Klassikers von Ella Fitzgerald nicht fehlen. Diesen Song sang sie zweimal bei "American Idol" und sorgte für große Begeisterung bei den Juroren. Laut Simon Cowell war das die beste Performance in einer Castingshow! Auf dem Album singt sie den Song ebenfalls sehr kraftvoll und beweist, was für eine tolle Stimme sie eigentlich hat.

    6. Baby Mama 4,5/5
    Die dritte Single aus dem Album geht eher in die Pop-Richtung und klingt ziemlich schön. Toll!

    7. Got me waiting 4,5/5
    "Got me waiting" ist ein eher ruhiger R'n'B-Song, der sehr romantisch klingt.

    Die fünfte Single aus dem Album ist wieder ein R'n'B-Song, der allerdings auch ganz leichte Rockanklänge hat. Nicht unbedingt das, was man von Fantasia erwartet, aber schlecht ist es definitiv nicht!

    9. You were always on my mind 5/5
    Hierbei handelt es sich um ein Cover des bekannten Liebessongs von Elvis Presley. Fantasia singt ihn sehr gefühlvoll und einfach wunderschön. Der Hammer! Auch diesen Song hatte sie bei "American Idol" gesungen.

    Danach folgt wieder ein originaler Song von Fantasia, der wieder in ihre typische R'n'B-Richtung geht. Nicht so schön wie die Balladen, aber trotzdem super!

Der Song ist ein typischer Castingshow-Siegersong, kommt mit einem starken Chor daher und natürlich zeigt Fantasia hier endlich ihre volle Stimmgewalt. Noch mehr solcher Songs wären super gewesen!

    Das Booklet ist ein ausklappbares Poster von Fantasia, die Songtexte sind leider nicht enthalten.
    Insgesamt ist Fantasia ein sehr gutes Debut-Album gelungen, das sich für R'n'B-Fans definitiv lohnt!
