Fertility Pirates (The Abraham Project Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 15 ratings

Six hundred lightyears away, a dying civilization cries out in desperation. On Earth, a small band of faithful missionaries commit to bring reproductive technologies and the Christian gospel. The Abraham Project includes scientists, medical personnel, humanitarians, and philanthropist Austin Abraham.

But, piracy taints the mission and the self-sacrificing soldiers of God are trapped—until one is smuggled back to Earth.

Kita and Molly, daughters of Pastor Levi Jacobsen, react to the commission with polar responses—one goes, one stays. When Kita mysteriously returns sterile and claiming things that are impossible, Molly goes undercover. Can she disguise her lack of faith well enough to fake a missionary spirit or will she blow her cover?

Dr. Deuce Abraham, Kita’s doctor after her return, is the last person Molly trusts. How can she possibly, he’s Austin Abraham’s son? Worst yet, he has joined the next pilgrimage. The very one she is on as a covert operative. He has legitimate reasons for going, but how can she believe anything he says? Should she rely on her tried and true gut instincts, or her stupid “gift of discernment”?

With no back up, one inside mole, and a mysterious contact, can she end this cradle of deception? Or will she loose everything, including her own fertility?

Very different, clean futuristic Christian themed story, which can be read without purchasing book two. Loved the characters even though the main character, Molly struck me at times as a bit over-emotional. Especially since she is a law enforcer, one would think she would have a better grip over her emotions and maintain a better "poker face" when meeting her nephew for the first time. Overall, the book was very good and the plot had you guessing at times.

I love it when I come across a good storyteller, someone who can make you feel what their characters are going through and interject the Christian message powerfully, but subtly. Lynn Donovan has been able to do just that with Fertility Pirates. The mystery and intrigue is enough to keep you on the edge of your seat, but the Sci-fi is just what the readers needs to keep them in the stratosphere of reader heaven. Molly Jacobsen was a frustrating character, she was stubborn and at times shortsighted. Oddly enough these traits are what helped her to solve a mystery and to stay they course no matter how difficult things got. Ultimately the lesson learned for Molly and us readers is no matter how much we rely upon ourselves, its not enough; we need to trust in Jesus. He is there to guide and lead us. He always had a better plan; all we need to do is lean, trust and rely on Him.

I was given a copy of this book by the author in exchange for my honest review.

7/10 I think the best description for this is overwrought. And I mean that in the nervous sense, not the complexity sense. Almost everyone here is at a slightly higher level of emotions and sensitivity than most of the situations warrant. The main character is more of a temperamental air-headed preteen than a seasoned law officer.
Anyone even vaguely familiar with investigations or covert operations will be a little bewildered by the Keystone Cops style bumbling around. It comes across as more a group of children playing secret operations than actual adults conducting an investigation.
Overall the story is a pretty good one. The characters are relatable and the plot moves along at a pretty steady pace. I was interested in what was happening and there were a few twists toward the end I didn't see coming. In fact one of the major character twists at the end surprised me and really needs a little more explanation and coverage than it receives in the book.
Technically the writing is pretty decent but could use some proofreading and editorial help. There are quite a few homophones, typos, and syntax errors. There seems to be about twice as many commas than necessary on some pages.
It was an entertaining read but I don't think I'm interested enough to bother with the sequel.

I live this author, but wasn't sure about Sy-fi. But I loved it, once I was in it was hard to get out.
