Fur Bearers Kindle Edition

3.9 3.9 out of 5 stars 67 ratings

This is an ingenious, updated take on the werewolf legend, a blend of The Gangs of New York and the classic wolf man stories. Set in the Minnesota and Wisconsin, two clans of city-bred werewolves clash in a bloody war. Their existence had been kept secret for centuries, even during their frenzied feeding once every five years. But now, their species is threatened by an escalating series of clan battles and the carnage that follows. Humans are about to discover the gruesome truth—that werewolves live among them. And are hungry.

Review

Shoulanda August reviewed Fur Bearers Thrilling and exciting I loved the storyline and the characters. I didn't care for the werewolves eating people but understand their reasons. This would make a great series!!!

Curtis Wilson reviewed Fur Bearers great book This is one of the most exciting series I've read in a long time. With the four surviving and now pups on the way. I can't wait to read the next book. Hopefully there will be a next book in the series. Fan for life

P.S. Winn reviewed Fur Bearers 1 of 1 people found the following helpful Amazing adventure! When Butch Guhl is injured when robbing a store, his dad knows his son is dying. Rod Guhl has no choice but to call in his father, Jerrold Guhl to help. Rod knows his dad can bring his son back from the brink of death, he also knows what the consequences will be for allowing his dad to do that. Great supernatural horror tale that takes the reader into the life of werewolves and their packs as this thrilling writer weaves an amazing tale.

An exciting introduction to life in the pack! I was captivated from the begining by this very well thought out and imaginative romp through the city streets and the Northwoods of Minnestota. I could easily imagine the sights and sounds and smells of the forest as I transformed right along with these "Fur Bearers." I highly recommend John Fort's lively take on the werewolf story, no silver bullets here, but diffinately 5 stars! ~Terri Bakker

I really like this book. Characters are fleshed out well. They are likable and endearing. It's not traditional in the sense that it is the whole "pack living among humans without being seen" type of story. I don't mind that if it is a good read, and this one certainly is. I'll read a sequel if one is offered.

Right when i picked up the book and started reading i could not stop. The descriptive writing style along with action and adventure through Minnesota kept me interested throughout the book. Being raised in Minnesota hearing some of the familiar towns just adds to the excitement. I recommend this book to anyone from Minnesota as well as anyone interested in science fiction books about werewolves.

It has an interesting premise, but the execution is sloppy. The author rushes through the story and glosses over aspects that would be interesting. He goes into detail, a whole chapter in fact , about a raid on tertiary characters while one of the main leads dies off screen, which he covers in one sentence. It seems he just goes with his first idea instead of trying to think of a better alternative. For example a government agency discovers the existence of werewolves and creates a task force called the Fur-bearer Squad, it's ridiculous. He alternates between being descriptive and failing to describe anything. The characters aren't fleshed out well and routinely act in ways that make zero sense. And the dialogue, oh man, the dialogue is downright painful at times, at best they speak as though they are talking to small children. There are also many editorial errors, misspelled word, words left out entirely and miscellaneous grammatical errors that really should have been caught. It really comes across as self published, but there is a company stamp on it. If the author were to revisit this and really dig in and give it another couple of rewrites to fill in the better ideas and iron out the rough spots it could be a lot better.

I was intrigue at the very beginning. I live in Northern MN and this caught my interest right away. Fur Bearers is a very fast moving read and hard to put down. From beginning to end, it is very well written. I loved the ending. Looking forward to a sequel book if there is one.

I found myself zipping through the pages just to get this story over with. Badly written, no real gore as you would expect from a werewolf story. Save your money and don't bother with this book.

It took me a while to really get into this book but it was worth the perseverance. Its a werewolf story with a big difference to any other I've read or seen in film. The characters are seemingly normal people until the werewolf trait in them presents itself. John Fort has written a very good description of how the human body changes form from human to werewolf and back again. There is a lot of goriness in the story but given the subject matter this was to be expected, the book wouldn't have had any credibility without it.
