What a fantastic start to a new series I can't wait to binge!
Gabriel Blakemore, purveyor of fine antiquities, handsome, rich, controlling man, who is also a Dragon! Yes Please!*****Rating: 5 starsSteam: 2 flamesGenre: PNR / Dragon Shifters*****Gabriel has been in the human realm for 300 years, since the day his family was betrayed, and his mother magically sent him and his siblings out of Paragon to the human realm to save their lives. He had lived a quiet life, until he met a terrible voodoo priestess, with a thirst for power.Crimson is a legend in New Orleans, and she has her sights set on Gabriel and his power. She has propositioned him and every time he turned her down. Now she has cursed Gabriel and if he doesn’t figure out how to break the curse by Mardi Gras, he will turn to stone and those that are bound to him will die. Then he sees Ravenna Tanglewood’s picture in the paper and he is drawn to her. However, he is dying of terminal brain cancer. She is literally on death’s door when Gabriel finds her, and they make a bargain, he will save her life, and she will work for him. In Dragon speak… that means he owns her. Neither will understand what this bargain will truly entail and what it will cost until much later.I was enthralled by the characters and the storyline. The characters' backstory and how everything began and then started to tie together kept me on the edge of my seat, I couldn’t stop turning pages as I watched everything unfold.I enjoyed the chemistry between Gabriel and Raven, and I think this was a fabulous start to a new series. And although it is in Gabriel’s very nature as a dragon to be controlling and take what he wants, he treats Raven with respect and care. Swoon….In Dragon of New Orleans, Genevieve Jack created a world of betrayal, secrets and magic that was a fantastic escape, and I will be continuing the series.I definitely recommend this book and I am off to read book 2! Happy reading!

Absolutely brilliant book which I totally loved and would thoroughly recommend hoping that others enjoy it as well. A last ditch attempt for a cure for a curse giving one of his dragons teeth to a terminal cancer patient in the hopes that she can find a spell or something to help him. Brilliant storyline with great characters in Gabriel and Raven. With Raven enjoying the freedom of living and Gabriel used to being obeyed these two stubborn people need to compromise. Can they overcome the obstacles that they must face and be together?

The Dragon of New Orleans by Genevieve Jack

My personal preference in books has been paranormal cozy mysteries, murder mysteries, sci-fi/fantasy, and romance. Pretty much, in that order. Shifter themed books are a “take it or leave, depends on the blurb” option. The fact that I had already enjoyed Ms. Jack’s Knight Games series and the description of the story made me curious about this dragon shifter book.

The story immediately captured me. I was immersed in a world of reality and fantasy with well developed characters and a strong plotline. This story highlighted the otherworldly side of New Orleans.

Gabriel Blakemore is a powerful dragon shifter, sexy, charming and, of course, under a curse that just might end his life. And he is running out of time. Cursed by a voodoo priestess in New Orleans, he's desperate for Raven's help to save his life before Mardi Gras.

Raven, in the final days of life after years of battling brain cancer, the 23 year old is out of options until a mysterious stranger appears in her hospice room one night and promises to cure her if she'll agree to work for him.

As some of you know, many first books in a series suffer from “world building”. The story gets bogged down by description and explanation. Not in this instance. There is a steady story flow and plot development. The concept that women could be the perpetrators and the champions is a refreshing reversal in this story. The man being saved by the woman he originally saves is just an enjoyable twist to an age old story. The world building and all the secondary characters kept me turning pages as much as the romance between these two main characters. The fleshing out of the two main characters, as well as the secondary, was well done. We are given their backstory succinctly but in a way that I found informative. Raven's abilities and bloodlines are compelling as the author builds on them as an integral facet to Gabriel’s life. The New Orleans setting, Gabriel’s antique shop, talk of food, curses, Casket Girls, folklore, and history just adds to the atmosphere that immerses the reader in the story.

My one point of contention with the story is Raven’s TSTL moments. I can understand her need to feel free and independent, but honestly. How many times does Gabriel have to save her before she realizes that just the act, on his part, is draining his energy and weakening him? He is constantly having to save her.

In total, Ms. Jack delivers a well written, well structured, well paced read and sets the stage for the following books in the series. I’m looking forward to reading them.

Oh this story was so good. I could not put it down. It is a hot suspenseful romance that hooks you in, takes you along for an exciting, intriguing, and sexy ride and keeps you enthralled until the very end. Raven is on her death bed after a five year battle from brain cancer. She is visited by Gabriel, a dragon, and agrees to swallow his tooth and be bound to him. She is miraculously cured and after months of getting stronger, Gabriel comes for her when she is once again in danger and let’s her know it’s time to fulfill her vow to him. Gabriel is hiding here from another realm. He is under a curse and he has less than two months left to break it. He believes Raven has powers that can break the curse but she’s equally sure that she doesn’t. On their way to their HEA, they’ll have to deal with an evil witch, get a handle on Raven’s powers, and solve a mystery. It’s an epic swoony fantasy. The story includes what you’d expect from this genre - fighting, fated mates, steamy encounters, sweet moments, dangerous situations, paranormal creatures, evil masterminds, henchmen, loyal friends and family, tragic back stories, mystical coincidences, snark, political intrigue, plot twists, and laughs. I am excited to read more in the series.

Raven is dying and she’s accepted it, the cancer having taken almost everything from her. But when a mysterious man appears in her her hospice room and offers to heal her for a price, she takes it.

Gabriel is on a timeline. He has a month to figure out wha to do with the curse placed on him before it turns him into stone. Will his newest employee Raven be the key to solving the curse and undoing it?

The story is full of references to history of New Orleans but while I wasn’t familiar with them, they still swept me away. I really enjoyed it as well as the fantasy elements of this.

Raven and Gabriel are good together but I found myself a little frustrated over the constant crying. Yes, I understand emotions run high and Raven is still relearning her body after the cancer took so much of her life away but the tears did get a bit cumbersome.

The plot is full of twists and turns and you are not sure what waits around the corner. There also seems to be a overarching plot that spans the entire series so there is that small feeling of a cliffhanger at the end because not all things get resolved in one book.

    🌶️🌶️.5/5.

I was loving this until it hits 60+% and Gabriel did something that completely threw me off and it sour the whole book for me.
He all of sudden plead on his knees for Raven to believe what was said and to believe in his love I guess. I know we were getting there but the way this happened was so sudden that i was a bit dumbfounded by it all.

There was also a part where Lucy all of the sudden runs n@ked or almost n@ked to the street and she's hit by a 🚗... Like why the hell did that even happen? To show her power? She could've glow in the dark or broken something. This seemed so extreme and out of left field...
WIth that said I enjoyed the world and how dragons came to be in New Orleans and to see a bit of their realm. I'm intrigued by it all so I will definitely be continuing the series.
I enjoyed the rest of the book though but I just couldn't get past these parts. 🤷

Would have given it a good rating if it had not been a first of series book from my Kindle subscription.....with all subsequent books not available except for by further individual payment. There is not even a boxed set available to offset the cost/pain of being suckered into this "dragon world" thinking it was covered by my subscription. Sure it can be read as a stand alone, but being a series starter it is full of "intriguing world building/series enticement" so was left annoyed that l was cut off /the series wasn't part of the subscription.
