Andrea Lockhart's job as a reporter for cheesy tabloid The Naked Truth isn't exactly where she thought her journalism career would end up. She's determined to make the best of it, but when her editor sends her to Woodbine, South Carolina, to investigate a werewolf sighting, Andrea decides the ridiculous assignment will be her last. Until she meets Sean Hunter.

The last time she saw Sean, he had just beat her out for the position of editor of their college newspaper, and told her she'd never make it as a reporter. Given his grand ambitions, she's shocked to find him editing the
Woodbine Weekly. Once they start competing for leads on the werewolf, Andrea becomes determined to break the story first—she can't let Sean beat her again.

As they each get closer to finding the source of the rumors, the only thing more surprising than the truth are the feelings Sean is able to stir in her, feelings she thought she had left behind...

From the moment Andi arrived in Woodbine and saw Sean you knew there would be sparks flying one way or another. Her tenacity is a strong point and a weak point. Her stubbornness causes her great joy and great anguish. Her ability to track down a story and stick with it to the burning end is what keeps you going.

Reed, A high school student and Meg Sean sister add a touch of drama and comedic relief.

The town of Woodbine is small-town USA and not unlike any other small town everyone there knows your business. The interactions of the towns people and Andi is a joy to read about.

If you're looking for fun, romance, and a touch of the supernatural this book is calling your name. As the title of this review implies it is a fun romp in the woods.

    My review:
    A- spicy
I really liked this book. At first, I wasn't sure what it was going to be, but the book was so much more and much deeper than I expected. This is the story of Andrea and Sean. They went to college together, and being the top journalism students in their class, were often competing against each other. Early on in their college lives, they'd actually been friends, but by the time they graduated, they were much less. And on Andi's part, there were lots of hurt feelings over the way things ended with them. Now it's ten years later and they both have had high's and low's since then and have matured into much different people.

I loved everything about this story line. I enjoyed the fact that they are both journalists. I liked that they had a history although a lot of it wasn't a good history. I even liked the werewolf angle to the story. It made for great reading and even a pretty good suspense line to keep the story really interesting. I never thought I could get so caught up in a werewolf story that wasn't flat-out paranormal.

Overall this is a great book. There are two fabulous characters who aren't without their flaws, but manage to stay completely likable. There are several side characters who were equally fun. I especially loved Reed...teenage photographer (i.e. Jimmy to Kent and Lois Lane...I loved that analogy!) I had no idea how the werewolf story was going to tie up, but thought it worked perfectly even if the final scene did read a little too much like an 80's horror movie (and the only reason this book got an A- rating vs. an A rating.)

The end was most suspenseful and of course, left me quite satisfied. I liked that the book was more than just a romance... it was full of mystery, suspense, supernatural and of course... the mushy stuff! Great book! Highly recommend! :)

Andrea Lockhart went from an award winning journalist for a respected national newspaper to a reporter for the cheesy tabloid The Naked Truth. If that isn't bad enough, her current job has her searching for a werewolf in Woodbine, South Carolina where she gets caught in a snare her first night there only to be rescued by her college crush turn nemesis, Sean Hunter. What's he doing here? Given his grand ambitions, she's shocked to find out he's living the small town life editing the "Woodbine Weekly" and was the one to name the creature stalking the town The Woodbine Werewolf. As they work to uncover the story here, they find more than they thought they ever would as well as reconnecting.

CRY WOLF was so much more than I imagined this story would be. First off, I thought this story was going to follow the supernatural cliché that as Andrea searched for the werewolf a certain someone would turn out being said werewolf. Nope--this story was more along the lines of Signs [Blu-ray]. A creature is stalking this small town, those who have seen it are freaked out and swear it has red eyes and fur and can both run on 4 legs as well as walk upright on 2. You have the skeptics, the believers and the mayor who wants to capitalize on it to attract tourists.

Andrea doesn't trust Sean, not after college when he beat her out for editor of the college paper and changed from a friend to a horrible and demeaning dictator. When he suggests they work together, she has other ideas. But as he is a local and knows the places the sightings happened as well as who did the sighting, she does kind of need his help. As they work together, their walls come down and they build their friendship back up.

I really liked Andrea--she was determined, smart, and capable. She didn't do any of those Too Stupid To Live things that usually happen in stories like this. She took a horrible experience in her life and decided to learn from it and grow--actually, she did that several times. And Sean? Not too bad. Yes, he was a complete bastard in college, something his loving sister had to knock into his head to bring him back to reality, but he's changed since then. He lived through 9/11 and didn't want to go back to NYC and went to be with his sister after he kicked his good-for-nothing brother-in-law to the curb. He, too, is smart and capable. I liked that the obstacles that Andrea and Sean had in their relationship weren't contrived or the "misunderstanding." It all felt normal and real...even if there MIGHT be a supernatural creature lurking in the woods.

The whole mystery around the Woodbine Werewolf was expertly done. The mystery created so much suspense and tension. The ending was awesome!

I'm so glad I gave this book a chance and discovered it wasn't a reworked supernatural cliché, but a great suspenseful mystery with a wonderful (and believable) romance.
