From the Author
I turned to face him, knowing my left cheek would be exposed. "If you'll have me," I said, holding back tears of shame.
"My God, Gray. What happened to you?"
A tentative reach of his hand toward my face made my breath catch. He stalled before touching two gentle fingers to my chin. "Are you all right? Is there more?"
I shook my head. "I'm fine. It looks worse than it is." My heart beat a little faster when I read the concern in his eyes.
"Our deal stands whether we're in my office or not." Daniel struggled to remain composed. "Who did this to you?" he commanded.
Our deal for honesty wouldn't be a problem tonight. "I did."
"Gray." He looked away as if he was planning his escape.
"That's the truth, Daniel. I'm responsible. I'm responsible for every bad thing that's ever happened to me."
His eyes returned to mine, determined. "No one has the right to lay a hand on you. Do you understand me?"
I nodded, wide-eyed like an obedient child.
"One day...you're going to rise above your circumstances. You're going to be a survivor instead of a victim. Your strengths will become assets instead of your downfall. Are you hearing me, Gray?"
His words riveted me like a savior at a sermon. He knew everything about me, though he knew nothing at all. A strong hand engulfed my forearm as if I was sinking in quicksand, and he was my lifeline, a way to claw and climb my way out. "Every word," I whispered.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2018This is the first book I have read from this author and she blew me away. I love a good mystery romance but this story was so much more. This is the first book of the Liar Duet. I was hooked on this book on the first chapter. I was up all night reading to see what would happen next. It only took me a few hour to devour this amazing book.
Gray Donovan has some very deep and dark demons from her past. She protects herself from others by lying. Gray’s lies almost costs her the job that she needs. Her boss tells her she needs to see someone to help her with her problems. Gray meets a gorgeous man and she can’t take her eyes off of him. She finally convinces him to take her as a client because her prior therapist had to drop her. Gray can’t resist the attraction she has toward her new Dr. She knows that she needs help but she is afraid of her past. Gray starts to connect with Daniel and she starts to take down her walls. When she starts to feel vulnerable she feels like there could be something more with this Daniel. Will Gray face her demons and heal or will they continue to haunt her? Will she find the kind of love that she has been dreaming about or will she end up alone?
This book is phenomenal. The storyline has it all romance, mystery, and forgiveness. You will fall in love with these characters right from the beginning. These characters will make you feel their joy and also pain. Gray has a lot of mental issue that will make you feel sorry for her. She is a beautiful young woman but she needs to face her demons to be a better person. Daniel is a beautiful man that has a heart of gold. He is a little bit of a mystery because this book is more about Gray. The way he treats Gray will make your heart melt. These two characters have some steamy scenes that will make your temperature rise. I can’t wait to read and see what happens to these incredible characters next.

4.0 out of 5 stars I wasn’t sure I would like Compulsive by Lia Fairchild when I started chapter one
I wasn’t sure I would like Compulsive by Lia Fairchild when I started chapter one, it isn’t what I would normally read and it wasn’t grabbing my attention. By the end of chapter two I had changed my mind. Somehow I had been sucked into this story, the story that I didn’t want to finish.
Think about why you would lie, to hurt someone? To keep someone you love from getting hurt? To get out of a difficult situation? Or would you lie to protect yourself? This last reason is what is behind Gray Donovan’s need for compulsive lying. Gray uses her lying as a defense mechanism to protect her from a torturous past that shaped her life. She feels that by lying she can keep everyone away. This mentality works for the most part until she has to see a therapist in order to keep her job.
When Gray first meets Dr. Daniel Harrison she automatically feels comfortable, to the point she finds herself telling him the truth. Daniel wants to help Gray overcome her demons, stop lying and become the person he knows she can be; the kind hearted, sweet, young woman with so much to give if she is willing to talk about her issues and stop letting them hold her back.
This was a well written story, one that was a bit different type of storyline from what is out there in the book world. One that I enjoyed immensely and I know I will be finding the second part so I can see what happens next.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2018Big on angst. The plot was solid and the characters well developed and vibrant. The writing was absolutely spot-on, real, and moving. Although there are some ethical issues involved, the author was clear that both doctor and patient were clearly sincere. Gray wanted help and Daniel wanted to help her and he did. They both just came to care deeply for one another during the course of treatment. What killed the whole book is the stupid epilogue and ending. The author just should have left it off and ended with Daniel looking out the window in deep thought or something. Instead, the writer gave away the next book. It's in his POV, he going to drop his own baggage, and he wants to be with Gray. Why do I want to read it now?
- Reviewed in the United States on February 13, 2018Compulsive (Liar, #1) by Lia Fairchild was a rollercoaster.
The writing drew you in, that opening set the stage and the momentum didn't stop or die down. This book was so much more then your typical love story. Trying to unravel the lies, the past and the twist. I was hooked. I read this book in one sitting, and when it was over I was left a little empty, because the ending wasn't your typical happy ever after. There is more to this story, more to uncover and to grow.
Gray, she can't separate herself from her security blanket. The lies are just to easy. To see were she started at the beginning of this book until the last, was an emotional ride that had my heart in a vice. No one likes facing their past, especially a traumatic one. Her growth as a character, the process, was one of the best I have seen. There was no quick fix, or magic spell. That made it all the more real and connecting.
This book, as I said is so much more then your typical romance. It dives deep into the human psyche, it makes you think about your own comfort tools and, how we build up walls. The mystery that surrounds Gray past, the glimpse we see, the truth that's revealed. It strips away at your heart, your emotions, you bleed for her, because there is nothing you can so to help. These are the books that make me fall more and more in love with reading.
This book is a must read, you will be shocked with the plot, writing and with the way this author uses words to make you emotionally connected to the characters. I felt like I was reading someone memories rather then fiction. Take my high recommendation that you will not be able to put this book down. You will be captured by it's uniqueness and deep heart gripping story.
Happy Reading

5.0 out of 5 stars Compulsive
This is a slow burn, for the first half of the book you don't know what had truly happened as you think your going down one path when really you are going on her personal life journey and how she dealt with it or should I say didn't. But with the help of Daniel a therapist and a handsome man she really want to try but there is something he is hiding as well onto book 2

5.0 out of 5 stars I feel like I’ve been on a great streak lately
I just finished reading Compulsive (Liar Duet, book #1), by Lia Fairchild.
I feel like I’ve been on a great streak lately, landing great books that I love, by many different authors.
But this book has an extra something. What a captivating book!
It is raw, powerful and emotional - showing us a person that has lived with unbelievable hurt and tried everything to work *around* it, instead of working *on* it.
Lia Fairchild has written about a very beautiful person, a person who is broken but her personality still allows her to comfort those around her, those that might feel a bit broken as well.
Honestly? I feel like I just read a real person's diary.
A real person who might be flawed but tries her best to just get through life, one day at a time.
Same as me.
I felt Grey’s raw pain, her joy and her hopes.
I saw her demons and I wanted to fight them with her!
Yes, I usually cheer for characters in books, as they might be real, but my heart sank into this book right in the first chapter and didn’t come back to me until I turned the last page.
I think I left a part of it there though because I am itching to get to the next book, right now!
I don’t think I’ll be able to write a review that does this book justice!
I’m still in awe of the talent of Lia Fairchild!
Pick this book up, now! You won’t regret it!
I’m ONLY leaving 5 stars because there isn’t an option for a 100!

5.0 out of 5 stars this book is amazing!!
5 Stars
Compulsive is the first book in the Liar series by Lia Fairchild. WOW, this book is amazing!!! I don’t know how I have not discovered this author, or this book before now! It was recommended to me by a friend who said it was fantastic and a ‘must read’, but as I had not heard of the author before I wasn’t sure what I would find between the covers. But my friends glowing recommendation, the beautiful cover, and the intriguing blurb soon had me embarking on a very captivating, beautiful, emotional, and touching story. From the moment I opened it I was transfixed, I couldn’t put it down and ended up devouring it over the course of an afternoon.
The story is all about re-discovering yourself, overcoming grief/loss/pain, finding love- and so much more. I don’t think there is any way I can convey the beautiful story without giving away spoilers. And there is no way my meagre words can really do this book the justice it deserves. All I can say is that if you haven’t read this book, or this truly talented author- then I feel you are really missing out.
Ms. Fairchild has impressed me with her wonderfully descriptive, emotive, seemingly effortless and engaging style. Her attention to detail, well-developed and dynamic storyline, complex and endearing characters, and her masterful ability to convey moods and emotion, make this an irresistible and addictive read.
I really recommend reading Gray and Daniels story. But be prepared for a roller coaster ride of highs and lows as this story will rip your heart out one minute, before piecing you back together again. This story continues into book two, which is already released so you won’t have to wait to continue on.
It’s well worth your time and money. You are sure to love it as much as I did!
Thank you, Ms. Fairchild!

4.0 out of 5 stars ... by Lia Fairchild 4 Stars Lia Fairchild is an excellent writer. This book was well written and interesting
Compulsive by Lia Fairchild
4 Stars
Lia Fairchild is an excellent writer. This book was well written and interesting. The story pulls you in and holds your attention until the end. I was amazed with the growth and development of the characters, especially Gray. Though I know most of the things she said and did were defence mechanisms, she annoyed me. Throughout the story, she confronted certain issues and grew. By the end of the story, I respected her.
The loss that she has survived and events that took place in the book had me shedding plenty of tears. I needed to keep a box of tissues close by at all times. I would have liked to learn more about Dr. Daniel Harrison but the way the book ended, I’m assuming we’ll understand him more in part two.
Compulsive is a story about survival and searching deep down to truly heal. This is a must read. I’m anxiously waiting for part two.

4.0 out of 5 stars I loved this book, can't wait to read the next in the series
Compulsive By Lia Fairchild is the first book in the Liar series and it was a compulsive read. This is the first book I have read by this author and thoroughly enjoyed every word written in this wonderful story.
Gray is a compulsive liar and her relationships have broken down in the past, although she only has a handful of true friends who have stuck with her in the end, until something happens at work and her employer and best friend Evyn insists she sees a therapist regarding her issues. While in there she only outs the minimal effort into the therapy but she realises once she trusts someone only then truly can Gray heal from the past. The only problem is she has never trusted anyone enough to tell the whole truth too, until Dr Harrison comes along but will open more than just her memories.
Dr Daniel Harrison is under pressure trying to help his sister with his sick niece, also running his practice he really doesn't need anymore distractions until she stumbles into him in the reception of his practice. He is fascinated by her but at first turns her down for him to be her therapist but he takes her on but can he keep his feeling professional enough to help her.
I loved the way the story was told in the point of view of Gray and to see inside her mind and her feelings, you feel you really get a feeling for this character. I loved the way she had such a loving and caring heart by looking after in sorts Aylssa but also her relationship with Nathan.
The chemistry between Daniel and Gray gradually builds and you feel the true trust and friendship first but also the conflict for Daniel to get involved with this brave, remarkable women. I always loved flaw characters as we are not always the best versions of ourselves, this way I always feel you can relate more these kind of characters and have more invested into the story to see how they turnout.
I can't wait to read more books by this author, especially the next instalment in this wonderful series.
