Pedro Capó is a Puerto Rican singer/songwriter, musician, and actor. The grandson of Puerto Rican legend Bobby Capó, Pedro rose to fame in the rock en español band Marka Registrada during the late '90s prior to embarking on a solo career. He broke through with "Estoy Enamorado," a 2009 duet with Thalía, and remained a mainstay on the Latin charts throughout the 2010s; two of his albums, Aquila (2014) and En Letra de Otro (2017), charted at Top Latin Albums and on the Latin Pop Albums charts. 2018's Latin-Grammy-winning "Calma" won the award for Song of the Year. It topped the charts in several countries, while its charting remixes featured Farruko and Alicia Keys. Following a small handful of singles, he issued "Bailar" in 2019, but didn't release another long player until 2023's charting La Neta. In 2024 he released the bestselling singles in "Existo," (with Carin Leon) "Sabe Bien," and "Mantra in collaboration with pop group Matisse.

Born on November 14, 1980, in San Juan, Capó comes from a musical family. His grandfather, Bobby Capó, was an internationally renowned singer/songwriter who ranks among Puerto Rico's greatest musical legends of all time. In addition, his father, also named Bobby Capó, was a popular singer of trova and salsa music. The third generation of Capós to find success in the popular music industry, Pedro initially sang and played guitar in Marka Registrada, who made their full-length album debut with Marka Registrada (1995), followed by 400 + 100 (1998). The latter album spawned Marka Registrada's best-known hit single, "Solo Pensando."

While the band carried on for years afterward, Capó parted ways and moved to New York City, where he pursued a career in musical theater, appearing in productions such as The Sweet Spot and Azúcar! Celia: The Life and Music of Celia Cruz. He also embarked on a solo recording career. His debut album, Fuego y Amor (2005), was released on the independent label Racy Music. It was subsequently re-released on Sony Music in 2007 with an alternate cover and track listing. Meanwhile, Capó resumed his acting career, appearing in the films Shut Up and Do It! (2007) and Paraiso Travel (2008).

In 2009, he re-emerged as a Latin pop artist, duetting with Thalía on her hit single "Estoy Enamorado." This set the stage for Capó's second album, Pedro Capó (2010). The promotional singles "Vamos a Huir," a Spanish-language interpretation of a Gilberto Gil favorite, and "Un Poquito Más" were issued prior to the album's release, while "Estoy Enamorado" was still garnering airplay. The follow-up singles "Si Tú Me Lo Pides" and "Un Minuto," proved more successful. The former, co-written by Puerto Rican critical darling Kany García, peaked at number 22 on the Latin Pop Airplay chart, whereas the latter reached the Top Ten. The album peaked at 58 on the Top Latin Albums chart.

Touring intensely, Capó would not record again for three years. In 2013, his pre-release single "#FiebreDeAmor," reached 43 at Hot Latin Songs, while the ensuing album, Aquila, issued in 2014, reached number three at Top Latin Albums. Capó toured hard and long in support of the record, traveling across Latin America and the United States.

In January 2017, he released the video single for the rocking power ballad "Azucar Amargo" -- it racked up over four million views. In August, while Capó was on the road, Sony Music issued his fifth album, En Letra de Otro. In July 2018, he returned with the single "Calma," which hit number one in numerous countries including Argentina, Bolivia, and Mexico. A remix version of the song featuring Farruko followed later that year and landed on the Billboard 200, as well as hitting number three on the Hot Latin Songs Chart. A 2019 remix featuring Alicia Keys furthered the song's popularity. The single "Calma" was awarded Song of the Year at the 2019 Latin Grammy Awards.

In 2023, Capó digitally released the 10-track full length La Neta. It included collaborations with Ñejo (aka Daniel Carlos Crespo) on the single and video "Ojos Claro," and "Una Vez Más" featuring Lali. IN March of the following year, Capo issued a small handful of singles including "Existo," a country-tinged cumbia co-written and performed with Carin Leon. They composed and recorded it during Billboard's Latin Music Week conference and workshop. In July he issued the solo single "Sabe Bien," and in August, he joined Latin pop trio Matisse on their charting single "Mantra." ~ Jason Birchmeier

Singer/songwriter and pianist Alicia Keys is an international star known for her sophisticated mix of classic and contemporary R&B. Behind the number one pop hit "Fallin'," her first album, Songs in A Minor (2001), sold more than 50,000 copies during its first day of release and eventually moved over ten million units worldwide, thus setting the stage for the then-20-year-old's lengthy career. Since collecting five Grammys for her debut, Keys has continued to refine her signature sound, specializing in aching love ballads and feel-good motivational anthems, appealing to an audience far beyond her R&B base without being overtly pop. Her subsequent studio albums in the 2000s and 2010s, namely The Diary of Alicia Keys (2003), As I Am (2007), The Element of Freedom (2009), Girl on Fire (2012), and Here (2016), all reached number one or two on the Billboard 200 and produced crossover hits such as "You Don't Know My Name" and "No One." Moreover, she earned routine recognition from the Recording Academy with ten additional Grammy Awards. Keys started her third decade of activity with Alicia (2020) and Keys (2021), LPs that strengthened her reputation as a keen collaborator with Ed Sheeran, Khalid, and Brandi Carlile among the contributors. She also issued her first holiday-themed album, 2022's Santa Baby, and revisited her second album with the 2023 release The Diary of Alicia Keys 20. In 2024, Keys marked the Broadway premiere of her semi-autobiographical jukebox musical Hell's Kitchen with the release of the soundtrack song "Kaleidoscope."

Alicia Augello Cook was born in Hell's Kitchen in early 1981. Raised by her Italian-American mother, she enrolled in classical piano lessons at the age of seven and began writing songs four years later. An education at the Professional Performing Arts School helped develop her vocal skills, and at the age of 16 she graduated as the class valedictorian. Two Columbias loomed on the horizon: Columbia University and Columbia Records, both of which extended offers. Although she attempted to make both options work, Keys found it difficult to juggle academic and professional commitments and chose to focus exclusively on her music career. Assuming the stage name of Alicia Keys, she began working with Columbia and contributed a song to the Men in Black soundtrack, but disputes with the label resulted in her contract's termination.

Keys bounced back by aligning herself with Clive Davis, the president of Arista Records, but work on her debut album stalled when Davis was ousted from the company in 2000. Davis soon formed his own label, J Records, and welcomed Keys into the fold with an aggressive publicity campaign (including an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show). Driven by the number one pop hit "Fallin'," Songs in A Minor was released in June 2001, debuted at the top of the Billboard 200, and rose to platinum status in ten countries. It featured a second Top Ten hit, "A Woman's Worth," and netted Grammys for Best New Artist and Best R&B Album, plus Song of the Year, Best R&B Song, and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, all for "Fallin'." Keys didn't experience a sophomore slump with her follow-up. The Diary of Alicia Keys arrived in December 2003, entered the Billboard 200 at the top, and yielded the Top Ten singles "If I Ain't Got You," "Diary," and "You Don't Know My Name." She again won Grammys for Best R&B Album, Best R&B Song (for "You Don't Know My Name"), and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance ("If I Ain't Got You"). Additionally, "My Boo," a chart-topping duet with headliner Usher, took the award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. Keys subsequently published Tears for Water: Songbook of Poems and Lyrics.

A live CD/DVD package, Unplugged, was issued in 2005 and kept Keys' streak of number one releases intact. She then took on acting work, starring in both Smokin' Aces and The Nanny Diaries in 2007, before issuing As I Am that November. Her fourth consecutive number one project, it was highlighted by the chart-topping "No One," which won her two more Grammys in the R&B field. ("Superwoman," released late in the album's promotional campaign, won Best Female R&B Vocal Performance the next year.) As 2009 drew to a close, Keys returned to the top of the singles chart with the hook on Jay-Z's "Empire State of Mind" (which also won two Grammys in the rap field), and in December released her fourth studio album, The Element of Freedom. Although it narrowly missed the top of the Billboard 200, it went platinum like all of her previous full-lengths, while it became her first number one album in the U.K. "Try Sleeping with a Broken Heart" and the Drake collaboration "Un-Thinkable (I'm Ready)" went Top 40 in the U.S.

During the next two years, Keys married producer Swizz Beatz, gave birth to a son, collaborated with Eve on the single "Speechless," appeared on Kanye West's all-star track "All of the Lights," and went on a brief tour celebrating the tenth anniversary of her debut album. She also wrote and co-produced "Angel" for Jennifer Hudson. In 2012, she appeared on albums by Emeli Sandé (Our Version of Events) and Miguel (Kaleidoscope Dream) before she released Girl on Fire, her fifth studio album and first for RCA. Issued that November, it featured her husband, as well as Sandé, Salaam Remi, Jeff Bhasker, Frank Ocean, and John Legend, among the collaborators. In the U.S., it became her fifth number one album and went gold, and also won that year's Grammy for Best R&B Album. Her second live recording, VH1 Storytellers, was issued in June 2013. Keys' recorded activity during the next year involved a collaboration with Kendrick Lamar, as heard on the soundtrack of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and a pair of socially conscious solo tracks, "We Are Here" and "We Gotta Pray."

After Keys and Swizz Beatz welcomed a second son, Keys released another single, "28 Thousand Days," and appeared in the second season of Empire, for which she recorded "Powerful" with series co-star Jussie Smollett. The following May, Keys released "In Common" as a prelude to her sixth studio album and made her third musical guest appearance on Saturday Night Live. A few months later, she began a stint as a coach on The Voice and contributed "Back to Life" to the soundtrack for Queen of Katwe. Here, led by the biographical single "Blended Family (What You Do for Love)," arrived in November 2016 and peaked at number two on the Billboard 200. In April of the following year, Keys quietly released an EP called Vault, Vol. 1, consisting of previously unreleased material and new versions of earlier songs.

In early 2019, in conjunction with her hosting duties for the 61st Grammy Awards, Keys issued the single "Raise a Man." This was followed by an appearance on a remix of Pedro Capó's multi-platinum hit "Calma," and additional singles such as "Show Me Love" (featuring Miguel) and "Underdog" (co-written by Ed Sheeran). After she hosted the 62nd Grammy Awards, Keys finished her seventh proper album, Alicia. Two more singles, "So Done" (featuring Khalid) and "A Beautiful Noise" (featuring Brandi Carlile) preceded its September 2020 arrival. The LP debuted at number four on the Billboard 200 and became Keys' eighth Top Ten release in the U.S.

In December 2021, she returned with the full-length Keys. Stylistically extensive with numerous guests (including Swae Lee, Pusha T, and Carlile), the album consisted of two parts, dubbed "Originals" and "Unlocked," offering ten of its songs in two versions, plus six additional compositions. Keys hit number 17 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and reached number 41 on the Billboard 200. In early 2022, she teamed with Fivio Foreign and Kanye West for the single "City of Gods," and shortly thereafter issued "City of Gods, Pt. 2" through her own label, AKW Records. That August, she self-issued Keys II, a new edition of Keys with two new songs and a pair of remixes added to the original track list. Keys finished off a busy year with her first holiday album, Santa Baby.

In 2023, she contributed an orchestral version of her song "If I Ain't Got You" to Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story - Covers from the Netflix Series. An instrumental chamber version of the song by the Vitamin String Quartet also appeared on the main Queen Charlotte soundtrack. Keys contributed "Lifeline" to the 2023 film adaptation of The Color Purple and released The Diary of Alicia Keys 20, an expanded version of her second album that included remixes, session recordings, and the previously unreleased song "Golden Child." Perhaps her most personal project that year came with the semi-autobiographical jukebox musical Hell's Kitchen, which featured Keys' songs and a plot inspired by her life growing up in Manhattan in the '90s. With a book by Kristoffer Diaz, Hell's Kitchen premiered Off-Broadway at New York's The Public Theater before debuting on Broadway at the Shubert Theatre in April 2024. To mark the move to Broadway, Keys released a studio version of the song "Kaleidoscope" from the show, also featuring vocals by the musical's star Maleah Joi Moon. ~ Andy Kellman & Andrew Leahey

Farruko is a best-selling reggaeton and Latin pop singer/rapper from Puerto Rico. Since delivering his Latin Grammy-nominated 2010 debut album, El Talento del Bloque, he has released more than 160 singles solo or in collaboration with a who's-who of Latin pop superstars, including Pitbull, Daddy Yankee, Natti Natasha, Karol G, and Bad Bunny. His videos have registered hundreds of millions of views (2016's "Chillax" featuring Ky-Mani Marley garnered more than 750 million on its own). Equipped with a smooth high baritone voice, he is equally adept at singing reggaeton, merengue, bachata, pop, Latin dance, and reggae. His third album, Farruko Presenta: Los Menores, was his first to crack the Top Five, while 2015's Visionary reached number one. Two years later, his single "Krippy Kush" and its remix featuring Ocasio, Rvssian, Nicki Minaj, and 21 Savage peaked inside the Top Ten twice, propelling his smash TrapXficante album to number three. 2019's Gangalee topped the Latin streaming list and went to number two at Top Latin Albums; it remained on the chart for two years. Following his soundtrack to the 2019 HBO docuseries En Letra de Otro, Farruko again topped the Latin Albums chart with 2021's La 167, featuring the hit "Pepas." The EP Cvrbon Vrmor (C_DE: G_D.O.N.) arrived in 2024.

Farruko's given name is Carlos Efren Reyes, and he was born in Bayamón in 1991. At the age of 16, he began to post songs under his stage name to MySpace. His first single, "Sexo Fuera del Planeta," gained him thousands of followers, and from there he explored the potential of other social media networks. Due to his massive success on the Internet, he came to the attention of Puerto Rican radio and music industry executives, who enlisted his vocal talents for other artists.

Farruko's debut album, El Talento del Bloque, appeared when he was 18. It was released by Siente Music and distributed by Universal. Most of its 13 songs were self-penned. The set became an almost-instant hit, and several singles followed from it. Some of the record's highlights included collaborative tunes such as "Su Hija Me Gusta" with José Feliciano, "Ella No Es Fácil" with Cosculluela, and "Traime a Tu Amiga" with Arcángel and Julio Voltio. Farruko also issued the non-album smash "Pa' Romper la Discoteca" with Daddy Yankee and Yomo. In 2012, he released his sophomore effort, TMPR: The Most Powerful Rookie. Its first smash single was "Feel the Rhythm" ("Siente el Ritmo"), though it was one of five. As a whole, the set demonstrated that Farruko was as comfortable in electro and pop circles as he was in reggaeton; it was nominated for a Latin Grammy.

After touring throughout Latin America and the United States and establishing large fan bases in locales such as Venezuela and Colombia, Farruko returned to recording in 2014. Farruko Presenta Los Menores was released in late October of that year. A week after its release, it topped the Latin Albums chart. Among the notable collaborations are "Salgo" with Arcángel, Ñengo Flow, D. Ozi, and Genio y Kelmitt; "Bebe Conmigo" with J Balvin; and "Interesada" with Luigi 21+. He won the Premios Juventud for the song "6 AM" with J Balvin and Latin Grammy Awards for Best Urban Performance and Best Urban Song in 2015. In February of that year, he released "Lejos de Aquí," a remix with Yandel. In June, he was Alejandra Guzmán's surprise duet partner on her first urban single, "Adios." In July, he issued the pre-release track "Sunset" (featuring Shaggy and Nicky Jam), which garnered the top spot on various Latin airplay charts. In August, Farruko issued The Ones, a compilation of his charting singles and collaborations; it was a teaser for his next studio effort, Visionary, which appeared in late October. Pre-order excitement for the album propelled it to debut at number one on several Latin album charts; it remained there for several weeks after release. In 2017, he returned with his sixth studio album, TrapXficante. As its title suggested, the artist put his money on the fusion of reggaeton and urban pop with the second generation of Latin trap; the latter he considered still in its infancy, making some commercial inroads but still far from its future force as the face of commercial mainstream Latinx pop -- despite its outlaw ties. He openly desired being the face of that future, and drew on a host of new-generation Latin trap artists as collaborators including Frank Miami, Sharo Torres, Rome, Mambo Kingz, DJ Luian, Maffio, Lil Geniuz, Bad Bunny, and Ladkani. The album was issued in September as Farruko undertook the U.S. leg of his global TrapXficante tour.

In the years that followed, he hopped onto a slew of singles and remixes with the likes of J Balvin, Pedro Capó, Nicky Jam, Zion & Lennox, and Alicia Keys. In the midst of this activity, Farruko was arrested in Puerto Rico in April 2018, which put him under house arrest. During that time, he recorded another album, his eighth overall, titled Gangalee. The set was issued in April 2019 and featured guests Anuel AA, Bad Bunny, and others. Later that year, he released En Letra de Otro, the soundtrack to the HBO Latino documentary-style music series special of the same name. Between its release and 2021, Farruko issued or collaborated on more than 50 singles. Several placed inside the Top Five, including "Krippy Kush," 2020's "La Toxica," and 2021's EDM- and guaracha-infused "Pepas," the latter of which appeared on the singer's full-length La 167. Also that year, he contributed the track "Rápido" to the F9: The Fast Saga soundtrack before releasing his contemplative 2022 single "Nazareno." A year later, he joined Marshmello for "Esta Vida," and he returned in 2024 with "Carbon Vrmor," the title track to his EP Cvrbon Vrmor (C_DE: G_D.O.N.). ~ Thom Jurek
