Spellbinding Genius
Awesome collection. Brings me right back to that magical night & it is right that it is documented as a live cd collection in its own right whether or not we do ever get to see a dvd release of it. As far as live albums go it has to be up with the best in both generosity of content & quality of performances not least by Kate herself whose voice is in great form live & it was easy to overlook this at the show as you were just so spellbound by it all and concentrating/taking so much in around the live visual spectacle unfolding before you to actually appreciate what a brilliant live performance it actually was too. So this cd is a great reminder of a fantastic live performer with an incredible voice & a brilliant live band in full flow too. It would be churlish & petty to nitpick & deduct marks here & there for this & that. Play it loud, take it in, its well worth it! Creative genius in full live flow & so thankful I was able to be there too.

This is a must for music fans, a superb Quality CD collection of KT Bush live performance, much extra Quality packed with the CDS, which you won’t get if you only download load the from music platforms.
Buy this, so good, with some real gems of music.

I don't normally like live CDs but made an exception for this one as, like many, I didn't get a ticket to Kate Bush's comeback residency at the Apollo in 2014. Four years on, and with no sign of a DVD ever coming, I feel ready to listen to it now and boy it doesn't disappoint. It effectively opens with a prayer (very spot-on for our Kate when you think about it) as the late spiritualist Lily Cornford's narration from 'Lily' prefaces a storming version of the song. The first CD is in fact something of a storming run through the later greatest hits catalogue, with Hounds of Love next up (I dare you not to well up as it starts and someone bellows "Its in the trees - its coming!" ) and Running Up That Hill not far behind. Though the voice is lower, it remains rich and impressively she rarely does what many of her age do when performing live these days, which is to let the backing singers take the weight of the melody at times. Son Bertie McIntosh, the prime mover in getting his mum back on the stage we are told, seems to handle many of the harmony vocals from what I can hear, especially on the Aerial songs. An extended version of King Of The Mountain brings the first CD to a raucous end as the thunder effects roll in preparation for the first of the song cycles, The Ninth Wave from Hounds of Love, which occupies disc 2. This is when the show really took off as a piece of musical theatre I believe. A tale of a woman floating in the sea waiting to be saved following a shipwreck, this live version is augmented with a couple of scene-setting dialogue pieces. In fact, in the booklet notes Kate says that she wanted this to play out like a radio play and clearly has the at-home audience in mind. (She is also at pains to point out that the vocals for the flotation tank video were in fact recorded live!)
The third and longest disc covers the Sky Of Honey suite from Aerial which is drawn out live to an impressive 61 minutes. Again, several tracks such as Prologue, Nocturn and Aerial are extended, with extra lyrics (these are thoughtfully printed in the well-illustrated booklet). Only once in Nocturn do I feel it verges on a typical rock show when the bass player does a bit of an extended number over a suspiciously disco beat, but there's no denying that A Sky of Honey builds to an intense crescendo that mirrors how the concert started. Some reviewers have commented on the wisdom of the inclusion of new track Tawny Moon that features her Bertie on lead vocals. He certainly has a pleasant enough if rather stagey voice (his back-up harmonies on Sunset are lovely though) but Tawny Moon in fact probably served on the night as a moment in which Kate could have a costume change and get harnessed up - I believe at some point in Nocturn or Aerial she suddenly got winched up into the heavens, wings stretched out wide. A curse on that (former) friend who promised me a ticket and then renaged on his promise!
The encores are Among Angels from 50 Words and an ecstatic Cloudbusting. I'm surprised the audience didn't whoop and holler more. No dry eyes in this house at the end of it all, I can tell you.

Well when she first burst onto the scene all those years ago, with that song.
The World beckoned and oh how she could have filled arenas all over.
    Instead what does Kate do?
Well we all know the answer to that one!!
Tour very briefly then disappear out of public performance and only very occasionally resurface with a new offering of material.
This approach has certainly gained her almost mythical status.
Now I am far from one of her most devoted and loyal fans.
Yes I do like a lot of her material over the years, but equally there's a lot that just does not do it for me.
So quite what do we have here with, Before The Dawn?
Simply you have an artist who still does have one of the most beautiful and unique voices the World has ever heard.
Even if she herself thinks that singing that song is no longer possible!!!
One huge regret for me as I suspect for many others too.
Now Kate has never quite done things by the book.
So should we be surprised that, Before The Dawn is not just simply a greatest hits LIVE album?
Though maybe she might do one yet.
    I certainly hope so.
What we instead have here is an artist weaving a magical music tapestry.
There are some of the hits here on CD1, which are absolutely brilliant LIVE.
Through the other two CD's though you have what could best be described as mini theatrical performances.
CD2 is a rather depressing affair, as it's meant to be!!!
It's all just a bit too down for me, but that does not mean it's not good in any way.
    Far from it
CD3 in the other hand is a lot more uplifting.
Personally my favourite of the two.
From the early mood setting sound of Birds tweeting, this magical musical piece starts off almost gently and keeps on building and building as it meanders along.
And then the whole thing erupts into a full blown foot stomping finale.
Kate really shows off the full dynamic power and range of her voice during this.
Power that could easily shatter Glass and level Trees!!!!
    Absolutely awesome.
To best appreciate what Kate has attempted to do here though, you really must sit down and listen through each CD as one and in one go.
Simply just the odd track here and there will not paint the picture for you.
Perhaps like me you'll find that this is not just a picture she has painted.
    It's a total masterpiece.
As for sound engineering and production on this album, I can honestly say that I was blown away.
Top marks to the guys behind the scenes who made this possible.
The sheer depth and clarity of it is simply staggering and captures an artist who certainly brought her "A" game to the table.
As I said earlier, I am not one of her most devoted fans, but with this offering she has certainly got my attention.
So much so that I may just delve further into her back catalogue!!!
Kate Bush LIVE is something that is very much worth hearing.
They do say Angels can sing.
Well sit back and let this one wrap you up with some extraordinary magic.
This is one heck of an album.

So worthwhile a purchase and in fine condition from this seller and arrived in good time too! Kate is the business, if you love her as I have done since I heard her when she was 15, you should buy this or better still turn someone else on to one of the royalty of rock.
