4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 727 ratings

Returning to his home city of Bastul, Kael finds the Southern Territory of the Orudan Empire under invasion. As he races to unravel the secrecy of the enemy’s identity, he becomes entangled in a brutal conspiracy to gain control of the government.

After years of collaboration with the Resistance, Maeryn coordinates the covert exodus of the entire slave population of Bastul. Along her treacherous journey to the capital city of Orud, she is faced with the pressures of leadership as she attempts to protect her daughter and ensure the survival of her companions.

Saba, held captive by a mysterious military force, escapes after years of solitary confinement. Propelled by an elusive memory, he chases after the hope of rediscovering his past and learns that everyone’s future is in jeopardy.

Finding himself in another world and thrust into the middle of a technologically advanced conflict, Adair struggles to make sense of his new environment and the soldiers who are protecting him.

In Book Two of his Amazon bestselling series, Jason Tesar expands the epic saga that journeys from earth’s mythological past to its post-apocalyptic future, blending the genres of fantasy, science fiction, action adventure, and military thriller.

About the Author

The third of four children and an introvert from the start, Jason Tesar grew up as an imaginative "middle child" who enjoyed the make-believe world as much as the real one, possibly more. From adolescence to adulthood, his imagination fed itself on a diet of books, movies, and art, all the while growing and maturing--waiting for its opportunity. Then, during a procession of monotonous, physically laborious day-jobs, his imagination leaped into motion, bringing together characters and locations of a world that would someday come to life on the pages of a book. In late 1998, Jason made his first attempt at writing, managing to complete a whole scene before returning once again to reality. A year and a half later, a spontaneous night-time conversation with his wife encouraged him to take his writing seriously and to keep on dreaming. Over the next seven years, Jason carved time out of the real world to live in an imaginary one of epic fantasy, science-fiction, and military/political conflict. The fruits of this labor would later become the first three books of the bestselling AWAKENED series. Due to the incredible support from readers around the world, Jason has continued his trajectory into make-believe, recently jumping from stable employment in the micro-electronics industry into the mysterious abyss of full-time writing. Living in Colorado with his beautiful wife and two children, Jason now spends the majority of his time fusing the best parts of his favorite genres into stories of internal struggle and triumph, friendship, betrayal, political alliances, and military conflict. His fast-paced stories span ancient and future worlds, weaving together threads of stirring drama and intense action that provoke reader comments such as, "I couldn't put it down," and "I'll read anything he writes."

I have sent back to the library, or stopped reading, so many books in recent years. I'm sick to death of re-reading the same things over and over again. The majority of what is offered at my library for the Kindle: romances (Amish romances over and over and over again), teen fiction, virus drama (how many times can the world die from viruses?) and zombies. I was so impressed with Jason Tesar. He sets the standard for imagination, descriptive writing, fully developed characters and places. He keeps the stories going, and I read every book in the Awakened Series and in the Wandering Star Series back to back. That's probably more fiction pages than I have read in the past two years, because I refuse to waste my time on the regurgitated, underdeveloped, over-done fiction that I've seen recently. Amazon has these for the Kindle at reasonable prices, which certainly can't be said for much of the Kindle offerings now, which have gone up significantly since I got my first Kindle 10 or 11 years ago. So buy them, enjoy them, and tell others about them. They're really good books. Oh, and there is a glossary in the back...you'll need it!

I was looking for something to put on my brand new Kindle (the kids gave me) prior to my trip to So. America. I downloaded several books each the first in their respective series. Each was free thinking that I would probalbly find one or two that might be good enough to purchase more in the series. 'The Awakened' Book One got me hooked on an intriguing story that combined a hint of present day problems with life, strife, and mystical conflict in what at this point I can only presume to be a parallel world and how the two worlds relate. I just started Book Three and I will probably finish it during the flight to Sao Paulo in a week. BTW, I love the Kindle. It's like carrying my library of books with me and it's a great companion on long flights.

I came upon the Awakened series, as I'm an avid reader and was looking for a good author to follow for some entertaining reading.
The first book, I left the book depressed and disturbed that I was not going to read any more. Some thoughts stayed with me that I felt if I could at least read book two or part of it, it would close the chapter of the bad thoughts I was thinking. I don't want to spoil any of the books. Actually, that is one of the best things I did because not only did it clear up the matter I was thinking about, but this book was so excellent, I blew through every book he has read and got my husband to do the same. We are waiting for the next book to com e out! I can see the movie already. Game of Thrones and Hunger Games has nothing on this series. Good thing Jason Tesar gave up his day job! What a great imagination and writer! You gotta read them all, they just get better and better.

All three books are one story line taken from one complete hardbound book. The story has flare, adventure, honor, and it's plots are ever opening to come to unexpected cunclusions. It was ingrossing reading and one can't wait for what is expected next. The book should not have been broken up into three electronic books. The electronic books as broken were too short in length. They together were under $10.00 so breaking the book up made no sense at all, plus it clutters up the library with three books and not just one.

This book is the next awesome installment of The Awakened Trilogy. I call it a Trilogy because first, it is one of three books in the original series and secondly because it is part of the first 3 books that make up the first third of the full series (there will be 9 books in total if I recall correctly).

If you're considering purchasing this book I'd recommend it all the way. I'd also recommend picking up either the next book in the series Hands To Make War: The Awakened Book Three or save yourself the trouble of being having your story interrupted and just get the Combined Edition (The Awakened: Books One Through Three) now.

In this book Kael really begins to take shape and you learn a bit more about his father (Adair). Kael's mother Maeryn is also thrust into more of a main role in this epic tale. Saba (one of my personal favorite characters) also returns. This book really helps the story to take shape and leaves you NEEDING more. This series is only getting stronger as it moves forward.

If you read often this series is worth a read. But if you don't have time to read a lot skip it. Although I will say these books are short and read quick. The second book is a little bit faster paced than the first, Tesar evolves the plot much quicker here. More action scenes, which I thought the author did a nice job with. My biggest problem with these books is that the parts of the story I found interesting seem to get glazed over or rushed through. Conversely the parts I could have rushed through got dragged out. Overall its an interesting series with some nice twists on old standard fantasy story mechanics.

I typically don't read fiction. The only other series of fantasy fiction that I've gotten into is C.S. Lewis' space trilogy (which I HIGHLY recommend!). Jason Tesar is an incredible writer and I'm so grateful to him for getting this story out of his head so we can all experience it. I just finished Incarnation as well and it was also very good. I cannot wait for him to release more. The plot development is so intriguing and solid, the characters are well-rounded and not predictable, the setting descriptions are realistic and easily visualized, the suspense level drives you forward through the series, and the battle between good and evil is laid out with brilliance and detail. I am a major fan.

It would be impossible to read just one of these books in isolation as 1 & 2 finish on such cliffhangers you are compelled to read the next one to find out what happens. Very clever. The writing style pulls you along quickly as the chapters alternate between characters and story lines. Apart from the writing style and technique the story itself was so full of characters you really had to read on to find out what was going on in each persons life. I got through all 3 in no time at all and was reading at every opportunity. Thankfully I have Kindle so was able to purchase the next book without waiting for the post or going to the shops. Very good all round and I will look for more books by this author. Excellent.

It was quite violent in places which shocked me on occasion but it did reflect the horror or war. I couldn't wait to read the next book.

I enjoyed this book immensely. I find that they are simply written and the author doesn't go into much details when describing things, but that doesn't detract from a good story. The characters are well developed and while the story is nothing groundbreaking it is highly entertaining to read. Just purchased the prequel to the awakened series and cant wait to get started.
