A Bridge Between Us

I had always known he wasn’t mine to keep, but that didn’t change the way I loved him—quietly, gently, and from afar. ⁣

As the seasons changed, the corn stalks grew strong, and the grapevines flourished with hope. But none of it mattered, not when the soil at our feet bound us in a century-old rivalry. We’d never even had a chance. ⁣

They said life flashed before your eyes on the way to death, but on that night, after my final scream burst from my throat and my world started to fade to black, I only thought of him. Of his sweet chocolate eyes, his desperately cautious stare, and his silence that carried more weight than gold. ⁣

I should have died that night. Instead, I crossed the moonlit bridge and never returned. ⁣

I let rivalry win. If only that had been enough to keep us all safe. If only we didn’t have a bridge between us.⁣

KK Allen’s stunning, lyrical prose never ceases to amaze and blow me away, but this book...WOW! A Bridge Between Us had my mind spinning, my emotions running wild, and kept me guessing until the very end of the book. This novel was one hell of a wild ride that I never wanted to exit. I feel as if there are no words to properly describe the abundance of feelings that I experienced while devouring this suspenseful, addictively captivating read. This is the kind of story that I love, a story that engulfed me so deeply that it was impossible to put down.

Camila and Ridge’s star-crossed lovers story is an EPIC one and one that spans decades. I must have gone through every damn emotion in this story. The chemistry and tension between them was everything and more. I lived for with each and every interaction between these two. I couldn’t get enough of the suspense and anguish of their relationship, along with the mystery of the past interwoven within. I was completely bewitched and felt their love deep in my heart. It was truly magical.

If there is one book to read this year, it’s most certainly this one. It has absolutely everything — romance, suspense, injustice, emotional highs and lows, and the most perfect storyline. K.K. Allen stole my breath time and time again with this book and has gone straight to the top of my favorite of hers. No question about it, one of my favorite books of 2020! K.K. Allen has truly outdone herself this time and there is no doubt in my mind that this extraordinary book deserves ALL THE STARS.

Wow! What an incredible experience this read was! A Bridge Between Us not only has a pair of remarkable main protagonists, but the atmosphere of this novel is spellbinding. I felt like I was among the corn fields, the grapevines and the mountains of Colorado with the descriptive segments of the enchanting setting of this story! K.K. Allen stole my breath time and time again with this book that is my new favorite of hers. This romance is simply stunning and features a couple with such a sincere and lovely complicity. They should not be have friends, even less lovers, but they fight against all odds for a future together! Add to the mix a suspenseful vibe and ALL THE FEELS and you get a MASTERPIECE!

Camila and Ridge are two beautiful souls! I was in awe of their relationship that blossoms through the seasons and years into something so meaningful and tangible. I felt their ache to be together despite the long lasting feud between their families. I felt their insecurities about the future. I felt their love so deeply! They're such a magical couple that left me speechless! Their stolen moments had me bewitched by their level of effortless understanding of each other.

Ridge is sweet, gentle and the quiet kind. He's not the type of hero I'm used to, but it only made me fall even more for his incredible qualities. There is something so alluring and magnetic about him. He's searching for his place in the world and with Camila he can share so much of his true self. The girl is the opposite of him, but her fire fits his calm! Camila has a vibrant personality. She's talkative, daring and always ready for her next adventure. I enjoyed her wild nature really much. Their relationship progresses so beautifully through times in an agonizingly, heartwarming slow burn. Everything feels so right when they're together, but obstacles get in the way of their love story to make it more arduous. They're an explosive pair when they get to unleash their feelings for each other. Between heartbreak and desire, they show their love in the most powerful and breathtaking ways! My heart pounded so hard in my chest from their charged moments of passion!

As if this romantic journey wasn't enough, the thrilling intrigue had me invested all read long. This sense of danger getting closer and closer is everpresent in the background. Clues are given here and there about what might happen and I couldn't wait for all of this to unravel.

A Bridge Between Us is unquestionably one of my favorite book of 2020! K.K. Allen with her sublime prose transported me in Telluride with her hypnotizing characters. This forbidden, coming of age romance with a page-turner plot line was EVERYTHING AND MORE!

We’ve heard tales of Orpheus + Eurydice, Romeo + Juliet, Healthcliff + Catherine, and now we have Ridge Cross + Camila Bell.
In a small mountain town, Telluride, Colorado, Camila fell enamored with Ridge the moment she laid eyes on him at 13-years-old at the local farmers market. Sneaking around their family rivalry, they meet at a bridge between their properties, sparking a gentle friendship. Through their tumultuous teenage years, Ridge and Camila find a delicate balance to keep their friendship without sparking an inferno between their feuding clans. Years of whispered promises, stolen kisses, and tender longing is swiftly wiped away in one night. One night changes the course of Camila and Ridge, a night that almost kills Camila and sends Ridge away, changing them irrevocably.
Fast forward, 10 years later, their current state and their journey is one neither they could’ve imagined. Camila has returned to claim her rightful place in her family vineyard. Ridge has revived his failing family business after decades of hardships and losses. Ridge and Camila face different challenges as adults then when they were teens. Shifting sands have changed the playing field, new threats arise, and old feuds threaten the future of Ridge and Camila. In order to flourish they will both have to end their family feud and unite to face new threats.

Contains spoilers

I am kinda disappointed in this book cuz i really liked it till 72%. So this story is about Camilla and Ridge whose parents hate each other. They have a rivalry going on for decades but Camila and Ridge falls in love despite knowing that their parents wont accept it. And then there is also a hunter who wants to kill Camila. This story reminded me a lot about Romeo and Juliet...and i never liked them. It was okayish and was kinda interesting, i liked the hunter part and how creepy it was. This story starts off when Camila is 13 and meets Ridge who is 15 at that time, they have instant connection and that forbidden part of their relationship because of their parents rivalry. Then we see how their relationship develops and how they face the obstacles as they grow up. It okay going okay until 72% because before that Ridge leaves Camila for a really stupid reason but he claims he did that for her, well but he did kinda leave her when she was almost about to die. So there is that and then they grow up, reunite and Camila just forgives him in 2 seconds. That aint my type, you dont fucking forgive someone who left u again and again. Ridge left her like 3 times and she just forgave him. Ugh. The hunter part was interesting but then it became too predictable who wants to kill Camila and it ruined my mood and i couldnt enjoy reading it anymore. There was a lack of chemisty between them from the beginning and it got worse when they grew up...there was no chemistry at all. I like the plot and there is more inner pov than dialogue which didnt bother me at first but after 72% the story just...changed. It became boring, it became annoying and stupid. I am too tired to even write a review cuz after reading so much and then be disappointed is tiresome.

„No matter how hard you try to fight what we are, you’ll never get away from me. Not then, not now, not ever.”

If I was to recommend a novel by K.K. Allen to a first-time reader, it would be this one. I’ve read many books from this author and loved each one, but Camila and Ridge’s story struck me the most. This book is like everything you can expect from K.K., only intensified. The beauty of young love that hits straight to the heart. The suspense that keeps at the edge of the seat until the very end. Mindblowing twists that make your jaw drop. And all of this is presented in such a wonderful prose that you’re unable to tear yourself away. A Bridge Between Us is an angsty and emotional story that’s not to be missed!

If you like strong, feisty heroines, Camila is your girl! I loved how courageous and fearless she was. This girl is curious, open-minded and non-judgemental. Sometimes she can act reckless, but this, combined with her stubbornness and determination, makes her such a special person. She's wild, caring and exceptional.

Ridge was unique right from the start. Quiet, wary and somewhat withdrawn, with a magnetism that immediately attracted you to him. This is a guy who is devoted and selfless, and if you are one of his loved ones, he will sacrifice everything to ensure your safety and well-being.

These two are a typical example of star-crossed lovers who, despite the bond they share, are doomed due to the age-old feud between their families. However strong their chemistry was, no matter how passionate their feeling was, time and circumstances were always against them. My heart broke several times. The angst made me want to throw my Kindle through the window. I wanted to scream, cry and then scream so more. But Ridge and Camila's story also brought me joy. Because these two showed that true, deep love can face all the odds and overcome all of obstacles. And for a hopeless romantic like me this is the most important thing in my reads.

K.K. Allen has created an outstanding story. A book that shows not only a beautiful, everlasting love that’s combined with breathtaking suspense, but that also contains a lesson in tolerance, trust and perseverance. It was filled with unexpected twists and turns, situations that gave me goosebumps and moments when I needed to fan myself. Believe me when I say that Ridge and Camila are straight up FIRE! The surroundings only added to the charm of this book, because it was described so fabulously that I felt like in the middle of a vineyard smelling of grapes. One of my 2020 top reads, definitely!

A Bridge Between Us is the story of Camila and Ridge’s second/third/maybe forth chance romance, and I struggled to finish. The story has a lot of layers… really long…really slow layers with SO MANY INTERNAL MUSINGS. Argh… I need forward movement, and when I have to wade through 2 pages of internal dialogue just for something to happen… I lose interest. There’s the forbidden family hate rivalry, the mc’s growing up, separations, romance obstacles, and this hunter side plot. The problem for me was that it didn’t feel cohesive.

I didn’t feel any real couple chemistry, and I really struggled with the h. I think the author was trying to portray Camila as free spirited and adventurous … but (for me) it felt immature, and kind of stupid with zero self-preservation skills. In her defense we meet her at 13, but unfortunately, she doesn’t mature or have character development as she ages. For Ridge, I think she was going for stoic and serious, but he just felt flat.

Bottom Line- I am not a patient enough reader to get through this, (even w/ skimming) and wordy authors aren’t really my thing. The back and forth dragged on for so long it became annoying not angsty. This book has many raving reviews, but they felt off... like too OTT. Not sure what's up with that, or I was just reading too much into it.

I'm having a hard time with reviewing this book. I'll tell you why:
I don't have the right words to describe why I loved this story.
My first book by this author.

I knew I was hooked 4% into the story.
I don't think I can pin point the exact moment I fell in love. It almost feels like it was a slow beautiful kind of falling... by the time I realized what was happening. I•Was•In•Deep! ♡ I was In Love and I wanted to keep falling.

This has an epic love story with an amazing journey of small town gossip, family history, friendships, secrets and grudges.

the beautiful and playful girl I started loving without even realizing when or how. She’s the gorgeous woman who still holds my heart.

This world consumed me and the writing was amazing. The setting was beautiful and I appreciated that I was able to envision it so clearly.

Hitting an all-time best with her latest release (my opinion), K.K. Allen delivers a deeply emotional, intense and thrilling ride in and out of the darkness -- powerful romantic suspense at its best!

Call it coincidence, destiny, fate, kismet — but in one moment, the lives of Camila Bell and Ridge Cross collided and changed forever.

The star-crossed lovers are caught up in an angst-filled and torturous century-old land feud between their families – Ute Indian reservation land at one time. Camila’s family owns vineyards making their own wine. Ridge’s grandfather farms – corn being his primary crop. A bridge separates their land and both Camila and Ridge have been forewarned that neither is to cross the bridge and to stay away from one another. But for a love worth fighting for, they are willing to take that risk.

A third party is involved and protecting his sinister interest in the lands, as well. “The Hunter,” who carries a persistent and seemingly irrational hostility towards Camila. This character keeps readers on the edge-of-their-seat. He’s vile, despicable and corrupt. Wherever and whenever he appears, danger lurks. The author has, without a doubt, portrayed his evilness in spades.

Not only is Camila beautiful, caring and exceptional, but also wild, reckless, stubborn and determined – all combined making her a force to be reckoned with. And she is dead set on ending the feud between the Bell and Cross families. And dead she might be before the battle ends.

Resolute to thwart Camila’s romantic advances and dodge trouble, Ridge finds himself losing that battle before the real battle even begins. He’s committed to keeping her safe and protecting his grandfather’s land. A multi-layered and solitary man, Ridge is hard-working, honest, moral and intelligent beyond what might be expected of his station. Courageous in his decision-making, Ridge emerges as the consummate hero.

I quickly found myself entranced and spellbound by the emotionally charged dialogue, vivid imagery and details surrounding the historical background in and around Telluride, Colorado that were represented in this saga.

Disturbing and distressing twists and turns appear throughout. A full spectrum of emotions arise within you – overwhelming, heartbreaking, terrorizing, exhilarating, forgiving, passionate, grieving and loving – masterfully developed and utterly gripping.

Love conquers all in overcoming the odds and the bridge collapses -- no longer separating the two star-crossed lovers, or their families and the land. I confess that I might have been nearing blubbering mess status by the time I reached the end of this epic story. Allen’s exceptional writing and amazing plot bring this story to life, culminating in a stunning and triumphant conclusion to one of my favorite 2020 reads.

With the odds against them, a couple overcomes family rivalries, threats to their safety, and threats to their business, eliminating the bridge between them, in this new romantic suspense story.

If their families had any say, Camila Bell and Ridge Cross should have never crossed paths. But Camilla's wild spirit, earning her the nickname "Wild One', is what first catches Ridge's attention. A friendship if formed, later growing to something bigger. As a couple, I thought these two were a good match. They shared a love for adventure and didn't let their toxic family history cloud their judgement of one another. But it was clear, they weren't always in control of their future, as several people had an interest in driving them apart.

As this story takes place over several years, Camilla and Ridge are separated by choice and/or by force but continue to find their way back to one another. While their reunions weren't always sweet ones, I liked how they worked through their anger quickly and forgave circumstances that weren't always in their control.

The suspense element in the story comes in the way of a third POV, "The Hunter", who as his name suggests, hunts on the land between the two-family farms. He's clearly not all there, as his inner monologue shows his hostility towards Camilla, who he sees as invading "his land". His identity remains a mystery for a good part of the book, but I eventually figured it out before the revelation. Or did I? The author threw in a little twist I didn't see coming, so that was a treat.

In the end, the connection between this couple is what saves them. They were able to show their strength and protect one another time and time again. While their road to happiness was a rocky one, it was nevertheless, a sweet one.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, even with the suspense making my heart pitter patter at many turns and I was glad that I had one part figured out but was still second guessing myself.
Ridge and Camila was a couple that will have you rooting for them from the get-go!!

Okay honestly, this book took me places- both physically and emotionally. It was so vivid in the descriptive that I felt like I was surrounded by the very mountains and hills that were shown here- such beauty that Colorado is known for. I wanna visit there just to experience it in person.
Wow!! Amazing!!

So we have our hero, Ridge (love his freaking name-super sexy) and our heroine, Camila. They meet as teenagers (13 and 15). Where Ridge is quiet and reserved, Camila is spunky and adventurous. She lives for trouble- always living on the wild and dangerous side of life which is where she gets her nickname, Wild One from our hero. I love when he calls her that. He’s so sweet once he opens up to her and he does because our Camila doesn’t give up easily. She sees something in him that no one else does. Everyone treats him like shit while she just sees a lost boy in a strange new place trying to make it. She knocks down his defenses little by little. Eventually they become friends...but it’s in secret you see, their families (it goes back to their ancestors) are enemies and have been for decades over the land they’ve lived and worked on. This was the best kind of Romeo & Juliet story!! The Cross and Bell feud. They can’t be friends because there’s a bridge that separates each of their land and even though they have nothing to do with what happened with all that, her dad would be furious. So they meet at the bridge. The sneaking around and forbidden aspect always made it that much more intense but also heartbreaking because some people had it out for these two. There were some characters I wanted to throttle, I hated them so much!

From the beginning these two knew that they were gonna do everything they could to be together. They were it for each other and it hurt so much when they had to part for sometime. Even though their love was so strong that it transcended time and distance, they still faced a lot of battles in their path. Camila was a firecracker and she didn’t take shit from anyone. I was so in awe of her determination and spirit. She was definitely one of my favorite kind of heroines. She was independent and sassy and loved with her whole heart. She was just everything. She was planning on taking over the land when her daddy passed and keeping his legacy alive. That was always her future.

Ridge Cross. I can’t say enough about this guy. He was just...well, he was every girls fantasy in the way he was broody and cautious but once he opened his heart, it was magnificent. I felt his pain regarding his mother, a sad story that eventually unfolds and my heart ached for him. And I enjoyed seeing his relationship with his estranged father, Harry patched up. Their growth over time was wonderful even though they didn’t know each other well as father and son, but by the end, things worked out for them. But one part was sad too. He really didn’t have anyone else but Camila. Honestly, she was all he needed.

I loved Josie. She was one of the best parts of the book. She was Camila’s best friend and from the beginning she was the only one rooting for our star-crossed lovers, besides me of course. I loved her supportive nature toward Camila. She sometimes made her see reason, even when she was being stubborn. She also offered a little comedic relief to all of the angst and heartbreak taking place. And there was a lot. She was just the best type of friend any girl would want. Really anyone could want. She became a good friend to Ridge too. I mean, he made her so happy so of course the best friend approved.

There was so much about this book that kept me so engaged. I was reading at work and couldn’t stop, as I had to know what was going to happen. There was enough suspense to make my heart pound furiously, while trying to figure out how they were gonna get out of this situation safely. Man, I was on the edge and panicky for them. Every time I thought they got a break, something else got in their way. But they were relentless, these two. They never gave up on each other and their plans for a happily ever after. After all they went through, they deserved all the happiness their hearts could take. Me- I was a happy mess!! I cried so many tears for them- happy and sad.

I can go on and on about this book but I think it needs to be experienced. I highly recommend to all my angst lovers book friends as there’s a high dose of that shit! And I loved every minute of it!! Well done, Mrs. Allen. You’re truly a queen of angst! Ridge and Camila will go on my top fave couples list!! Thank you for an unforgettable journey that I’ll definitely be revisiting in the future!

It was tough to get through this one. Doesn't usually take me four days to complete a book - even with skimming all the sex scenes after the first one. Too much repetition. However, the point is that I found this to be a vastly different experience than the blurb and all the glowing, bum-kissing reviews suggest.

I kept waiting to see even a glimpse of what other reviewers raved about, but what I saw were more of the same bothersome elements in a story that often felt disjointed and poorly executed. There was just a whole lot going on in this story that was distracting, from details that really didn't enhance the story to fragments that were left hanging, and waaay too much telling over showing - which is an annoyance for most seasoned readers I know, myself included.

As much as I wanted to give the book a chance and soldiered through it, the deal was sealed in the first pages with the introduction of the heroine, Camila.
It is a mystery to me how writers of the romance consistently miss the importance of reader connection to a heroine. The readership of this genre is predominantly female and the heroine's POV is generally the one that readers will gravitate to. So, it's kind of important that the character be - if not likable - then at least relatable. And if the character is supposed to be likable but isn't, there is a thing called 'character development' that should ideally occur throughout the story.

It's almost impossible these days to find a heroine who isn't weak, stupid, too awkward or just an arsehole. A heroine who lacks dignity, who falls down or makes a fool of herself every other chapter is not someone I understand or want to know more about. Neither is one that is immature, self-absorbed or needy.

All of the above can be attributed to Camila. From the first chapter I disliked her and that fact never changed. I reckon the intent was that she be seen as free-spirited and fiery, but what I saw was an undisciplined and obnoxious brat who thought rules didn't apply to her and couldn't grasp that life wasn't all about what she wanted.
What I heard from her translates thus -
"I, I, I..."
"Me, Me, Me..."
"I want, I want, I want..."
"But why? But why? But why?"

Camila was not just selfish, but too desperate as well, which would be embarrassing and uncomfortable enough if I'd felt any connection between her and the hero, Ridge - which I did not. I'd been 'told' that they had this connection and were star-crossed and meant to be together and blah, blah, blah. Only I didn't see it or feel it, which made her behaviour extra childish and cringe-worthy.

I found many inconsistencies in not only the behaviour of the characters but throughout the overall progression of the story itself. Camila inexplicably pursued Ridge multiple times AFTER saying it was over, she'd never forgive him, etc, and it made no sense to me. Information was introduced, skimmed over and then dropped. There were fragments of things left hanging, like Camila's parents and why her dad was so stupid. Like what happened to Ridge's mother and the fact that ultimately her story didn't tie into the suspense angle as it should have. Like why make a big deal about Ridge being half-Ute with the implication his heritage would influence the story somehow and then drop it entirely.

In the end, don't buy into the high ratings here. The writer admits to having a 'tribe' in her acknowledgements so I'd wager most of those reviews are highly biased. There isn't anything unique about this story, it's not beautiful or unforgettable, nor are the characters memorable. While the writing doesn't suck per se, the story could have cooked a little longer to better develop it. As it was, in places it felt like a lot of jumbled up plot-bunnies thrown together, in others it simply felt rushed or phoned in.

I enjoyed some of this writer's earlier work but haven't been engaged by more recent books, which makes me wonder how I'd feel if I reread the early ones. I rarely do re-reads, however, so while I haven't dismissed her entirely I will approach with caution next time.

No cheating. No OP drama. Dual virgins. H is a late-bloomer by today's standards. Decade separation with apparent celibacy of both characters. No surprise babies, thank Christ.

YMMV.

A Bridge Between Us is another amazing standalone from K.K. Allen. It is more than just a story, it is an experience.

I truly don't know where to start with this one. This book is so much more than just a romance. It's a story about family, heritage and coming into your own. Allen wove such a beautiful story and gave us characters that will stay with us for years to come.

I will do my best to not give away too much in my review because this book truly must be read without my knowledge beforehand.

This book is told from three POV's, yes three. And no, it is not what you are thinking. Just know that Allen crafted and woven a very strategic plot line. She delivers all the angst, suspense and drama wrapped up in a beautiful story.

Readers will love Camila and Ridge. Camila has a wild spirit and doesn't shy away from much. Ridge is one the sweetest but reserved and keeps to himself. These two are at odds as to how to go about their friendship/relationship, but sometimes you it's impossible to ignore two souls when they find one another.

A Bridge Between Us is more than the romance though. Reading about the families, their heritages and watching both Camila and Ridge grow and come into their own was such an adventure. This book is long, but it's all those little nuances and trinkets of information that Allen intricately places throughout the book, that comes perfectly together in the end.

This book is a journey and one I was so glad I took. I love Allen's writing and how deep she dives into her characters and their stories. If you want something more than just a romance, definitely pick this one up. You won't regret it.

This was one Romeo and Juliet style romance that so did not work for me. The longing and chemistry between Ridge and Camila did not ripple off the page and have me sighing in delight. Th angst in this had me shrugging.

The plot which has a smidge of mystery and danger didn't have me very engaged, and at times the writing didn't work, especially the first few chapters.

4.5 LOVE WILL FIND A WAY ⭐

This book was complex. It pulled at your heart strings. K.K. Allen has brought you into Ridge and Camila's world seamlessly. It was a thrilling ride for sure. It's got it all - a coming of age star cross lovers vibe, small town romance, even some suspense and whole lot of slow burning angst.

Camila and Ridge's family have a century old feud going on. The kids aren't sure what the reason is behind it, but they are drawn to each other, like moths to a flame. They aren't to go beyond their lands boundaries, but with love it has no bounds.

Camila is an enigma. She is intense, daring and so free it hurts. She acts and thinks after the fact. She is a whirlwind, a Wild One.. nothing stops her. Until she meets the quiet boy from next door. He causes her to pause. Ridge is new to town and now lives on his Dad's farm. She befriends him after a bit of time even though he is content just being unseen and unheard.

Camila continues to have him in awe and he can't get her out of his mind or heart. Circumstances and secrets continually try to keep them apart, but the heart knows what it wants.

Considering this is the only book I had any time to read this month , I did pretty well choosing it.
A bridge between Us is a beautiful second chance romance with big Romeo and Juliet/ star-crossed lovers vibes.

Camilla Bell and Ridge Cross were never suppose to meet eachother, never mind falling in love, but fell in love they did. The Bells own a huge property and vineyard business while the rivals , Cross, own cornfields. This war has gone since forever, but neither Camilla nor Ridge want or understand anything of it. It starts as friendship that evolves into young love, they meet at the bridge between their properties and share their dreams and hopes, but they have bigger "bridges" between them at every step. This is a slow burn romance, sexual tension that spreads across the years until they are finally reunited,
The author has done great at character and story building, it shows she's done her research on on the location and wine business process. The mystery of The Hunter adds suspense and keeps you guessing and on the edge of your seat.

I believed in both characters and their love. Camilla is the "wild one", brave, strong and impetuous while Ridge is calm, quiet and reserved. They complete eachother and I appreciated how Camilla fought for what she believed.

Overall, this is a great read, that takes you on an incredible adventure.

“Just think—one day, it will be you and me running the land. We can end the silly feud then and there. And you know that bridge you tried to threaten me not to cross? One day, that bridge will connect us instead of separate us.”

A Bridge Between Us is much more than a romance novel. This is a dramatic journey of acceptance, redemption, inspiration, compassion, and yes, love, that spans a lifetime. Each scene is vividly painted with dynamic detail that kept me reading until the final word was digested.

K.k. Allen executes a flawless standard of emotional storytelling that I readily devour.

A favorite read for 2020!

A Bridge Between Us by K.K. Allen is undoubtedly her best work till date and one of my top 2020 read. The writing is phenomenal. The details, the execution, the depth- everything was just exceptional. The emotions crippled me, overwhelmed me and filled my heart. Goosebumps and butterflies all the way. One of the best star crossed lovers romance I have ever read.

The setting of the story is beautiful. Set in vast mountains and forest, in vineyards and farmland, this story took me away to a surreal world. Camila Bell and Ridge Cross should never have become friends. The rivalry between their fathers is legendary in Telluride. But they had this connection written in stars. That doesn't mean the path will be easy. This was an epic romance spread across decades that completely consumed me and left me breathless.

This story addressed some very important social and historical issues. Ridge is mixed blood with her mother being native American and the author included his unique and difficult experiences as an Ute boy very sensitively. She also touched upon issues like nature preservation and our self destructive ways with nature. All these captured my heart from the beginning. This rivalry is deeply rooted in the historical conflicts and those caveats were intriguing to say the least.

Both Camila and Ridge went through a lot of evolution and transformation as character and that was fascinating to me. Camila was always the wild child. Reckless. Impulsive. Carefree. Full of life. Always seeking adventure in nature. Always dreaming. When she first met Ridge, he was this close natured but kind and sweet boy. Ridge was always weary of their family feud but Camila wanted a new future. It was young love. Sweet. Dreamy. Intoxicating. Passionate.

And then the author changed the gear. And oh my god my heart got ripped out from my chest. The journey became so freaking angsty. Anger. Heartbreak. Betrayal. Pain. Tears. Camila lost her light and Ridge became this hardened version of the sweet boy. It was pure freaking torture. I couldn't breathe. It was epic. Camila and Ridge were working out their own inheritance. And also their feels. They were broken but not irreparable. And the suspense was killing me. An invisible force is working against them and I was dying to get the secrets out. The chemistry was insane. The feels were brilliant. It was an impossible mix of tears and smiles and everything in between.

A Bridge Between Us by K.K. Allen was an unforgettable and exceptionally well written journey. Camila and Ridge won my heart fair and square. This is pure romance perfection from K.K. Allen.

GENRE:CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE.
AUTHOR:K.K. ALLEN.
TYPE:STANDALONE.
POV: FIRST PERSON- MULTIPLE POV. ( CAMILLA, RIDGE, THE HUNTER.)
MY RATING: 4.5 STARS.

"Our roots are deep, just like your vines, which adapt to every season. No matter the harsh weather, there’s always new growth.” ~Ridge

Camilla and Ridge, beings from a small town are always have been kept apart from each other...sometimes it's the century-old Rivalry, or other times it's the secrets between them that have the potential to break them apart forever.

But nothing can keep them apart forever, they find a unique friendship kept secret from others. While others saw him as a half-native American Ute boy, she saw him for who he was within...a sweet-natured, kind boy who was helping his father with his farm.
But one night changes them f0rever, The hunter had a big role to play here...but the secrets were the ones which truly breaks them apart.
The girl who wanted to destroy this century-old feud was lost forever...and the boy she loves become this hardened version of the sweet boy...

Now they are united after years...and while he wasn't there to save her the first time...this time the Hunter will be the one on the losing team!

We’ve surpassed our greatest odds and become stronger for it. And it’s all thanks to a bridge between us …a bridge that now connects us in all the ways we’ve always dreamed." ~Camila

This was a slow read, small-town romance which gave me Romeo Juliet feels in the start but as the story progresses it gave such amazing romantic suspense vibes...I was seriously dying to know who that damn Hunter was...But when it was revealed, I couldn't have been more surprised.
There was no guessing in this book...the author throws you on such a roller coaster ride...one moment you are dying to know what's next and then you are scared to turn the page.

I cant complete this review and don't talk about the nature depicted in this book... The hill top...the cornfields...vineyards....totally give a small town feel to the readers. A beautiful place for the start of the love story.

Ridge was totally a book boyfriend material...I liked him when he was a good guy but I loved him when he became the man he was in the end. The transformation of the characters was so vividly described and we could feel the start and the growth of the love between them.

I struggled with this book, which makes me really sad since I absolutely adore this author. Maybe it was the mood I was in, but for some reason I just couldn't connect with the storyline, nor did I feel the connection or chemistry between Camila and Ridge.

This is very much a modern day, Romeo and Juliet with so much racism thrown in. I did appreciate that our author placed that in this book, especially in this day and age where we are STILL fighting over racial equality, and I loved how Camila just saw the sweet boy for exactly who he was on the inside, and not some "monster" her dad saw who just wanted to steal their land/home. These two start a fragile friendship, that leads them on the road to heartbreak and betrayal, but also brings them to where they were always meant to be.

The first half of this book was really slow to me, but I did appreciate the authors attention to every single detail. The suspense of the Hunter was definitely my favorite part! That had me on the edge of the seat!

I felt more of the connection between Camila and Ridge towards the end, but I just wish I would have felt it sooner. Even though this wasn't my favorite book by this author, I still very much appreciate all the beauty she brought to life from her lyrical prose and the similarities of today's world.

This is my first time ever abandoning an audiobook.... I knowwwwww! Shocking!

The narration was really good, but I got to 52% without feeling ANYTHING other than boredom for this story.

The sad part is that the writing is good.
But Camila (FMC) is as flat as they come! Ridge calls her Wild One and I only see her as stupid. I think the author tried really hard to portrait her as this wild tomboy that grew up with the freedom of the land, but she's so annoying and she also does everything that everyone wants her to do.
So what's the point?

Ridge is also the male version of a wallflower. Coming to think about, they are made for each other in that way.
They're both plain characters when there should be layers upon layers on them.

I couldn't feel any chemistry. Any soul crushing or even innocent love.
It was more like a friendship where he leaves when he starts to feel.
He's weak.

The plot is also everywhere. The hunter? The families rivalry? Native Americans losing land to a Mexican/ Brazilian couple? The shady Tom? It was too much all over the place, but not enough to make me want to finish it, which is sad, cause I had this book on my TBR since it's release!

THIS is how you write romantic suspense! WOW...I am completely awestruck with the phenomenal writing, breathtaking settings, and addictive storyline that KK Allen created for this book. This author told her readers that this book was something special, and she was not kidding. She has found her wheelhouse and I never want her to leave it!!!

This book is about two young star-crossed lovers - a sort of modern-day retelling of Romeo and Juliet. Their families have a feud that has gone on for generations, and Ridge - the stoic, serious yet compassionate son of a Ute mother and a farmer father; and Camila - the fiery, fearless, tomboy heir to a vineyard owner, get caught in the crosshairs. What began as an innocent, yet forbidden and hidden, friendship grew to be so much more in their young adult years. Their connection was palpable, their chemistry grew with every scene, and they were the light to the other's dark. I loved how they stood by the other regardless of the situation - and how much they inspired the other one. Every interaction between them set a path in motion for what their futures would hold. Camila was the dreamer, and Ridge was the realist....together they were determined to change the course of their families.

One fateful night changed everything for these two. They both fought inner battles choosing between family and their own happiness; both wanting to be selfless for different reasons. Although my heart was broken and there was a point that was absolutely gut-wrenching to read, as time went on, it was apparent that they both still had so much growth left to do.

I loved both of their character's development...I FELT every heartache, tragedy, loss, and disappointment they faced. And with every one, they both seemed to grow stronger and more clear-headed. Camila grew to be an even stronger force as a young woman, and I loved her determination and strength; while Ridge battled his guilt and remorse for decisions that would haunt him for years, his goals never wavered, nor did his love for Camila.

I disappeared into this story....from the Colorado mountains to the beautiful vineyard and small mountain town, I was completely consumed. The suspenseful storyline and twists and turns made this epic love story an absolutely addicting read. This is KK Allen at her best, and you can feel her passion through her beautiful prose. Bravo!! Well done once again KK Allen!!

I kind of had a love/hate with this book. There were times when I liked it...the beginning? But overall it was just not exciting enough or the characters were just blah, or I didn't feel the emotions because everybody was just too soft? I'm not sure. I got the relationship and the backgrounds of the families and it held my interest for the first 60% but then i put it aside and just didn't want to pick it back up - so that kind of tanked it for me in the end.

5 Fated-Love Stars⭐
A Highly Emotional Heart-gripping Suspense Story where the Star-crossed lovers Have their 2nd Chance with a Friendship & Love that Survived Distance, Time, Family Feuds, Secrets, Betrayal, Anger and Hate.
I knew starting this story that it'll Break my heart & it did. Then gently put it back together. I LOVE Camila & Ridge!!
#My 1st by K.K. Allen & I'm totally going for more!

This story addressed some very important social and historical issues. Ridge is mixed blood with her mother being native American and the author included his unique & difficult experiences as an Ute boy very sensitively. Issues like nature preservation and our self destructive ways with nature were touched too. All these captured my heart from the Start. This rivalry is deeply rooted in the historical conflicts and those caveats were very intriguing.

We've 3 POVs: Camila (Our Heroine), Ridge (Our Hero), The Hunter (Villain/Suspense element/Camila Hater).
This story broadly divides into 2 parts: The Past (58%) AND The Present (42%).
With A Family Feud/Rivalry that's Complex, Filled with History of pain... The two break apart many times, their meet agains weren't always sweet, but still Close to their hearts.

The Past..
Camila Bell has always been Reckless, impulsive, Wild, Full of Life, Searching for adventures. Earning her the Nickname 'Wild one' by Ridge when they'd met at the Bridge b/w her family's vineyard & his dad's farm when she's 13 & he's 15. Then, he was this close natured but kind and sweet boy. Ridge was always weary of the Family Feud AND Camila wanted a new future for them.

Later on they Blossomed into a Close+Secret Friendship (Her Hilltop!). But Wanting more broke them apart. And It wasn't until years later when he's 19 & she's 17 (The Camp!), when they get a REAL Chance At 'Us'. For months, Even in Secret at home, it was Dreamy. Intoxicating. Passionate. Young love.

Her Prom night was Beautiful. They finally gave their All to eachother *Swoon*, it was Sexy+Sweet.
But it set off a Domina effect, Of their End. Their love binds them forever but Forces bigger than them never wants them together.
As Secrets come out, Bittersweet Choices are Made.. Heartbreak. Pain. Tears. The Hunter attacks her too, making the night worse..
She maybe saved, BUT THE RIVALRY WON.

The Present (10 years later, she's 28, he's 30).
Camila lost her light and Ridge became this hardened version of the sweet boy. It was pure freaking torture.
Both of their dads are now dead, & as the years had passed, a lot has changed. She'd moved away but now with her father's death, has come back permanently for The vineyard Business. Camila and Ridge are working out their own inheritance (Neighbors!). And also their feels. They were broken but not irreparable.

Now they meet again, Both are Cautious. He knows he doesn't deserve her Forgiveness (even more so for what he'd done 5 years ago *Oooh, wtf?!*) and She doesn't want more Pain.
"Our roots are deep, just like your vines, which adapt to every season. No matter the harsh weather, there’s always new growth.” ~Ridge
But now they're adult & no one's b/w them anymore. As the Unspoken is Finally Spoken..They get their Gorgeous 2nd Chance at love, Now For Forever (Dreams Come true!).
Finally Free to Love, No longer in Secret but Out in the open. Cue Sexy+Good times & Date!

BUT Y'ALL, THE MYSTERIES & DANGERS ARE NOT OVER.
She has to fight for the inheritance that's rightfully hers and The History+Secrets behind 'The Hunter' are slowly Revealed. Atleast now she has Ridge. He wasn't there to save her last time, but Now he IS. Cue Heart-racing Scenes! And the Twist towards the end is..*OMG!*
Pieces of the Puzzle come together.
With full truths..Come closure. Ridge & Camila can finally move on from all the Past Pain, Together Forever. Cue HEA!!
"We’ve surpassed our greatest odds and become stronger for it. And it’s all thanks to a bridge between us …a bridge that now connects us in all the ways we’ve always dreamed." ~Camila

The Epilogue is beautiful, & I'm gonna buy the book to read the bonus epilogue!😍
P.s. I also loved her mom, her bestie and as grumpy & Scary his dad was, him too.

5 heart-thumping-stars!! Gosh, this story! It was beautiful, scary, angsty and so romantic, filled with love, friendship and hate that spans well over a decade.

"I would grow on him like the twisty tree at our backs, until I was so deeply rooted in his life that he couldn't push me away again if he wanted to."

Camila Bell is a law unto herself. She's fearless, direct, and adventurous to the core. When Ridge Cross comes to live with his father, their life-long enemy on the neighbouring land, she doesn't let him deter her adventures. If anything, she drags him along and they become secret friends.

"My Wild One, untamed and boldly herself, unlike anyone I'd ever known."

Ridge is destined to break Camila's heart because all he wants is what's best for her. As teenagers, her personality and character draws him to her. As they grow older, the innocent chemistry between them morphs into something more adult and more forbidden than their secret friendship. All the while, sinister eyes are watching their clandestine enjoyment of each other's company.

"Camila Bell was a figment of my every desire, both past and present, and I knew hell existed wherever she didn't."

Seriously, this story gripped my heart and imagination. I loved Camila and Ridge together so much. My heart broke over and over for them. Sometimes their love felt hopeless, and other times it burned so brightly. Their journey to happiness was filled with trials and obstacles. I was rooting for them all the way. I adored their connection and their passion. I loved how natural they were together and even after time apart, they came back together with ease and comfort, in spite of any negativity between them. The suspense in this story was something that really got me, too! I was on the edge of my seat and gripping my face in fear reading some of the sections. Pretty heart-thumping stuff!

"One day, that bridge will connect us instead of separate us."

A fabulous read full of vivid imagery and emotion with amazing, solid characters. Absolutely adored it!
