Editorial Reviews

THE STUDIO ALBUMS 1989-2007 features every studio album Rush recorded for Atlantic Records. The collection includes the Gold & Platinum albums Presto (1989), Roll The Bones (1991), Counterparts (1993), and Test For Echo (1996), as well as their covers EP Feedback (2004) and the Billboard Top 5 album Snakes & Arrows (2007). THE STUDIO ALBUMS 1989-2007 features each album presented in a wallet sleeve that faithfully reproduces the original artwork (except for VAPOR TRAILS, which features a reinterpreted version of the original cover)

The collection also includes the highly anticipated release of a remixed version of the band's 2002 album VAPOR TRAILS. In 2009, two tracks from VAPOR TRAILS (“One Little Victory” and “Earthshine”) were remixed for the Retrospective III collection, setting fans into a frenzy in anticipation of a possible remixed version of the entire album being released one day. Four years later, that day is finally approaching!

"Vapor Trails was an album made under difficult and emotional circumstances - sort of like Rush learning how to be Rush again - and as a result, mistakes were made that we have longed to correct. David Bottrill's remixes have finally brought some justice and clarity to this deserving body of our work,” says Geddy Lee. "Every song has been given a new life, from the fire of ‘One Little Victory,’ ‘Secret Touch,’ and ‘Ceiling Unlimited’ to the melodic musicality of ‘Sweet Miracle’ and ‘How It Is’… these songs have been redeemed. Thank you David".

Well, I bought this mainly for the Presto album hoping this version had a better sound than the original. It is definitely "brighter" with a little more bass punch, but sounds kind of "bright" and "glary" for me. For now I will stick with the original Presto version until I get a chance to try out the version from the "RUSH Remasters Series". The re-mix of Vapor Trails in this set sounds good but I would have been just fine with the original.

Canadian progressive rock titans Rush's 7 albums that they recorded for Atlantic Records were re-released in October of 2013 as the 7-CD box sets The Studio Albums 1989-2007.
When I first got wind that Rush would be updating their Atlantic Records catalog, I was at first reluctant on upgrading to this box set fearing that the remasters would not be as good as what Adam Ayan did in 2004 and Howie Weinberg, Bernie Grundman did with the albums from Vapor Trails onwards but since I've been a Rush fan for many years, I could not pass this boxed set up nd purchased on the day it was released. This box set does a great job capturing remastered versions of Rush's post-Mercury Records era studio albums in one set.
The albums in this fourth Rush boxed set of studio album are the band's seven studio albums for Atlantic Records (the 1989 Top 20 classic Presto, 1991's Top 5 million seller Roll the Bones, 1993's #2 charting masterpiece Counterparts, 1996's Top 5 charting Test For Echo, 2002's Vapor Trails now completely Remixed (see review), 2004's Top 20 mini-album Feedback and the 2007 Top 5 classic Snakes and Arrows). What's cool about this boxed set is that all of the albums are packaged in quazi-vinyl sleeves so it's just like buying the vinyl albums (which most were not released on vinyl initially in the US sans Presto, Vapor Trails, Feedback and Snaked and Arrows) and the remastering job done by Andy Vandette at Masterdisk in 2013 initially for iTunes then on this incredible box set.
I don't need to rehash the reviews of these seven albums again (if you want my opinion read the reviews of each one) but what I can say is that the sonic quality on this box set is incredible. The alternate remix of Vapor Trails is superior to the original mix and also seeing Feedback on CD again after it was discontinued in 2006 is a sight for sore eyes and ears and the two major reasons why I grabbed this set and sold my individual CDs of the album in this set once this came in the mail.
Also, the packaging is incredible with the miniature vinyl sleeves plus a booklet with lyrics to all of the tracks, only gripe is that it doesn't contain band photos nor the pictures that were on the original albums nor picture labels as they were on vinyl but the remastering done by Andy VanDette is superb and makes the Adam Ayan masters and Howie Weinberg look like they did not ever occur IMHO!
The Studio Albums 1989-2007 boxed set (like the three previous Sector box sets released by Mercury Records) by Rush is a must own and if you want to replace your 2004 remasters and/or original CD versions released by Atlantic during the 1989-2007 timeframe, then I say go for it.
    RECOMMENDED!

I have been a Rush fan for over 40 years. But I listened to mostly their older albums. Signals was the last album I bought until recently. I recently decided to fill in the gaps in my Rush collection. This set is a GREAT way to buy their later albums at a great price. I am thoroughly enjoying these later works by them! I like the return to an emphasis on Alex Lifeson's guitar. And the vocals of Geddy Lee has only gotten better over the years. Niel Peart showcases why he is the G.O.A.T. drummer and one of the best lyricists ever. (Except for the song "Dog Years." but hey, no one is perfect.) These are three of the greatest Rock musician's ever! If you are like me and had their earlier albums only, this is a great buy!

I lost track of Rush's later years and so grabbed this 7 disc set. Great stuff. Roll the Bones rocks like earlier albums. I've been a Rush fan since middle school in 1975 so was pleased they kept rocking in later years.
